The assassination on 28 June 1914 of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, the heir to the throne of Austria-Hungary, by a Serbian nationalist in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina was the proximate trigger of the war. This caused Austria-Hungary then declared war on Serbia, which caused Russia, in defence of Serbia, to declare war on Austria-Hungary. Germany, Italy, and the Ottaman Empire then made alliances with Austria-Hungary while France and United Kingdom made alliances with Russia. -

Vietnam War starts with U.S.A. again defending the Democratic Government of Vietnam (South Vietnam) against the takeover of the Communists Government of Vietnam (North Vietnam). Again, the Communist Chinese support the North Vietnese with weapons and soldiers. -
Vietnam War Ends
Vietnam War ends with the U.S.A. being unsuccessful to keep South Vietnam free from a communist takeover by North Vietnam, and in the end becomes a communist nation as a whole. So U.S.A. had to withdraw from Vietnam. -
Persian Gulf War Starts
Persian Gulf War starts in which U.S.A. and other Western European nations support Kuwait from the invasion of the Iraq nation under the dictatorship of Saddam Hussein. -
Persian Gulf War Ends
Persian Gulf War ends with U.S.A. and other Western European nations successful defeat of advancing Iraqi forces and the defence of Kuwait. -
Cold War Ends
Cold War ends with the Soviet Union (U.S.S.R.) collapsing because of bankruptcy and in consequence, gave up all its former countries it controlled during the Cold War. In turn it became a democratic nation.
