New England Confederation
The New England colonies founded a group that helped the settlements fend for themselves against Britsh and Indian attacks. It was basically a military alliance between the colonies. -
Sugar Act
The Sugar Act was a modified version of the expired 1733 Sugar and Molasses Act that Parliament had passed. The Sugar Act placed a tax on wine, sugar, and other important things. -
Currency Act
The Currency Act was passed by Parliament in order to effectively control the colonies' money. The act stated that there would be no more "new" currency printed off and that they would reissue the original, or Britain's, currency. -
Stamp Act
The Stamp Act was a tax imposed by the British Parliament on the 13 Colonies on every paper item. The money raised from the Stamp Act taxes were used to pay for the protection and defenses of the colonies. The colonists were angry because past taxes were only there to regulate money not raise it. -
Boston Massacre
Two colonists were injured and 8 British soldiers were put in prison. Even though few suffered the consequences, the colonists were furious with Britain. The colonists became even more violent. -
Boston Tea Party
Colonists dressed themselves in Mohawk apparel in an attempt to show Britain they weren't going to tolerate the high taxes on tea. Therefore the colonists dumped the tea over the ship into the harbor. -
Patrick Henry's speech
Henry's famous quote 'give me liberty or give me death' stated his opinion on Great Britain. He'd evidently be free than be under the control of Britain. -
Battle at Lexington and Concord
Paul Reverehung lanterns in the church to steeple to warn the colonists of the incoming British soldiers. The first shots of the revolution were fired at this battle. British General Thomas Gage sent 700 troops to steal and destroy guns, food and other supplies from the colonists in the town of Concord. This bstarted the whole revolution. -
Declaratory Act
It was established in order to enforce the other acts by Parliament. -
Declaration of Independence
The Declaration of Independence was approved on July 2nd then signed on July 4th. It announced and declared the independence of the colonies from Britain.
