    Eugene V. Debs
    November 5, 1855 – October 20, 1926
    This man was the best known socialist during this time. He soon became part of the Social Democracy of America. An interesting thing about this man is that even at one point, he had ran for socialist from his prison cell.
  • Chinese Exlusion act

    Chinese Exlusion act
    This was at one time a federal law in America. It excluded all Chinese laborers from working and immigrating in the U.S. This was the first law to be made to exclude one ethnic race from immigrating into the U.S.
  • Sinking of Luisitania

    Sinking of Luisitania
    The Luisitania was the fastest boat made during this time. SHe departed on her voyage on May 1st, but sadly only 6 days later, she was struck in the side with a torpedo. There was also a second explosion after the 1st that ripped her in half, and within 18 minuted she bacame part of the sea.

    Zimmerman Telegram
    This was the first message sent by the German secretary to the german ambassador making an alliance in case of war with United States. This was published onto the front page of American newspapers across the nation.
  • Sedition Act

    Sedition Act
    This act just extended and prolonged the Espionage Act of 1917. This was used to protect out participation in WWI. This made it illegal to support the other countries or give out any information that would promote the othe countries success.
  • 18-21 ammendments

    18-21 ammendments
    18th amendment: the prohibition of alcohol from 1920-1933.
    19th amendment: women are now allowed to vote.
    20th amendment: dates that the president and his wokers will step down unless they die in office.
    21st amendment: alcohol is no longer prohibited.

    Immigration act of 1924
    This act was passed and limited the number of immigrants coming into the United States. We completley excluded any immigrant from Asia which came into disagreement with the Gentlemens Agreement. The act was revised by congress later on in 1952.

    John Scopes- The Monkey Trial
    The Monkey Trial began in 1925, John Thomas was accused of teaching evolution wrong to highschoolers in Tenessee. There was a law made before he taught that said one would be fined if they "teach any story that denies the story of the Dicine creation of man as taught in the Bible". This is what scopes was doing.

    The Jim Crow Laws were the loacal and state laws that created racial segregation between African Americans and whites. This included segregation in schools, transportation, and public places.
