    When the U.S. resisted communism by extending financial aid to friendly European nations rebuilding after the destruction of World War II.
  • Berlin Airlift

    Berlin Airlift
    1948-1949, when the United States transported needed supplies to East Berlin.
  • NATO

    NATO
    Military alliance between North America and Western European Nations that says they will help each other if they get attacked on.
  • Korean War

    Korean War
    1950-53, started with North Korea invaded South Korea in order to attempt to make South Korea communist. The United States joined in with South Korea to prevent North Korea from taking over. The war was never fully resolved and the United States and South Korea are detested by North Korea, and North Korea does not cooroperate with any other countries, other than Russia.
  • The Polio Vaccine

    The Polio Vaccine
    Was created to help prevent the spread of the polio disease that causes muscles to stiffen and weaken so often that it can cause people to become paralyzed.
  • Sputnik

    Sputnik
    Sputnik was a satellite launched by the Soviet Union in 1957. This began the space race between the Soviet Union and the United States. It was slightly bigger than a basketball, and the United States feared that the Soviet Union had the ability to send nuclear weapons with the satellite.

    NASA Established:
    NASA was established in response to the Sputnik launching to try to help America advance in the space race. Caused math and science to be taught more in schools around the country.
  • Castro’s Cuban Revolution:

    Castro’s Cuban Revolution:
    Revolution began when Fulgencio Batista gained power in the election. In 1953, Castro began his attempt to gain power. Castro eventually gained power and became the dictator of Cuba
  • Bay of Pigs

    Bay of Pigs
    The Bay of Pigs was an attempt to overthrow the Cuban Dictator. The goal was to cause an anti-castro uprising in Cuba, but Castro's troops caught the U.S, and the plan was unsuccessful
  • Building the Berlin Wall

    Building the Berlin Wall
    The Berlin wall was built with the purpose of creating a barrier between East Berlin and East Germany
  • 6-Day War

    6-Day War
    June 5th-10th, 1967, was mostly fought between Israel and Palestine due to terrorists attacks on Israel, who ended up winning.
