  • Great Depression

    The great depression started on Oct. 29 1929 and ended in 1939. The presidents During this time were FDR and Herbert Hoover.
  • Empire state building completed

    On April 11, 1931, the Empire state building construction was completed. Until 1970 it was the tallest building in the world.
  • The 20th Amendment

    On January 23rd 1933 moved the beginning and ending dates of the presidents term. Thy were moved from March 4th to January 20th.
  • FDR becomes president

    Was sworn in on March 4th, 1933 and was assassinated on April 12th, 1945. He was the only president to serve more than 2 terms.
  • 21st Amendment passed

    This amendment ended prohibition (18th amendment) which didn't do much except make people drink more. Was passed on December 5th 1933.
  • Dust Bowl

    On May 9th 1934 States such as Oklahoma, Kansas, and North and South Dakota. It slowly ended throughout the years
  • WWII

    WWII started when the Germans invaded Poland on September 1st 1939. The war ended for us on September 2nd 1945 when the Japanese surrendered.
  • Pearl Harbor

    On December 7th, 1941, The Japanese attacked the Naval base at Pearl Harbor. About 2,400 people died that day with 18 ships sinking.
  • FDR dies

    On April 12th 1945 FDR dies during his fourth term as President. He died of a Intracerebral hemorrhage.
  • The end of WWII

    On April 30th 1945 Adolf Hitler committed suicide during the Battle of Berlin. This lead to Germany surrendering on May 7th 1945.
  • Bombing of Hiroshima

    On April 6th 1945 we dropped the first atomic bomb on the city of Hiroshima killing 80,000 people instantly and many more from radiation poisioning.
  • Bombing of Nagasaki

    On August 9th 1945, we dropped another atomic bomb in Japan this time in Nagasaki and killed 40,000 people with many dying later from radiation poisioning.
  • The Philippians gain independence from the U.S.

    On July 4th 1946 the Treaty of Manila was signed which freed the Philippians from us.
  • The Truman Doctrine

    the policy that supports free peoples who are resisting attempted subjugation by armed minorities or by outside pressures
  • Jackie Robinson breaks color barrier

    On April 15th 1947 Jackie Robinson become the first African-American to play in the MLB.
  • The Marshall Plan

    Effective on June 3rd 1948, this gave aid to some Western European Countries. They gave about $13 billion dollars ( about $130 billion dollars today).
  • The Soviet Union

    The Soviet Union tested its first atomic bomb on August 29th 1949.
