  • Proclamation of 1763

    This law ordered colonial settlers to remain east of the Appalachian mountains. The British economy was devastated with all the time in war, and made the colonial settlers angry with them.
  • The Stamp Act

    This tax required colonists to pay taxes on almost all printed materials including land deeds, newspapers, and books; it was the first direct tax within the colonies.
  • Sons of Liberty

    With time, many groups were becoming Patriots. One of the most famous groups were the Sons of Liberty; they usually protested against British taxes and and other things they felt had been unfair to them. The most famous leader was Samuel Adams, the cousin of John Adams.
  • The Boston Massacre

    During this night, a group of colonists physically attacked British soldiers with rocks and snowballs. As tension grew, the soldiers had to retaliate. Five colonist had died, and the colonists used this event as propaganda to raise hate towards the British and fear on other colonists.
  • The Tea Act

    The Tea Act was not intended to raise revenue in the colonies and did not impose any new taxes. It permitted the East India Company to sell their tea. This act prompted the Boston Tea Party.
  • The Boston Tea Party

    This was a boycott performed by colonists dressed as Mohawk Indians protesting against British taxes on tea. The colonists dumped 342 crates of tea overboard from the ships into the Boston Harbor.
