Social Darwinism was the belief of Darwinism with people. Darwinism is the way animals evolve based on their survival. Social Darwinism went as far as nutering people like animals so they could not have children. -

The progressive Another goal the progressives had was to achieve efficiency in every part of the goverment by identifying old ways that needed modernizing, and putting stress on scientific, medical and engineering strengths. Few of the progressives consisted of Herbert Hoover, Charles Evans Hughs, and Teddy Rosevelt. -

Manifest destiny was the belief widely held by Americans in the 19th century that the United States was destined to expand across the continent. This concept from the bible was believed that white people were suppose to help the others. This grew into a cause of Imperialism. -

Derogatorey term used by labor unions for wealthy and powerful American buissnessmen. These workers used it because they felt that the big buisnessmen were taking over there jobs. Andrew Carnegie was one buisnessman to be called this. -

This was the belief that the government should have a strong powerful military in order to succeed in enconomic success. On this day Teddy Rosevelt expanded the army from 24,000 soldiers to 60,000. Also on this day it was possible that the army could go to 80 thousand if neceessary. -

British intelligence decoded the message that the German's sent to Mexico that asked the Mexicans for alliance in World war 1. The message was sent to President Wilson by the British on this day. ON March 1 the contents of this message were publicly announced and the man who wrote it Sec. Zimmerman confirmed it to be true. -
Treaty of Versailles
The peace treaty of world war 1. It ended war between Germany and the allied powers. One of the things the treaty stated is that Germany caused this war. -

Teapot Dome Scandal
The trial of Jhon T. Scopes who was charged with violating Tenesee law of educating on evolution in public schools. Even though in the end he did not prevail in convincing the jurry that it was alright it opened up many minds to the idea of evolution. -
Hawley-Smoot Tariff Act
It was an act sponsored by Senator Reed Smoot and Representive Willis C. Hawley. This act raised tarrifs over 20,000 imported goods to record levels. The act reduced American exports and imports by more than half.
