The Declaration of Independence was a document drafted by the U.S. Continental Congress declaring the 13 colonies as independent states. John Adams was the leaader of a committee pushing for independence, which lead to the establishment of the United States of America. -
Articles of Confederation
The Articles of Confederation was a document that joined the 13 founding states as a Confederacy of sovereign states. It is known as the first constitution, however it was officially replace by the U.S. Constituion on March 4th, 1789. -
Shays' Rebelion
Shays' Rebelion was an uprising that took place from the fall of 1786 until late 1787. It was named after Daniel Shays, a veteran of the Revolutionary War, as well as a farmer. The rebelion took place after the Philidelphia Convention was announced, but before it began. While the affect it had cannot be directly measured, many historians believe that it caused many changes as far as taxes and finances in the US. -
New Jersey Plan
The New Jersey Plan was a proposal for the U.S. by William Paterson. It lead to the foundation of two houses of COngress appointed by the people to represent the population.
