Pre-Emancipation-1833
There were no formal education provided for the slaves.
Provision was made only for the non-conformists missionaries.
Hereafter, provision was made by wealthy planters. -
Emancipation Era - 1834
Education was looked at as the mechanism for averting this impending catasphe and ensuring the continued existence of the white planters class.
The provision of Elementary Education was therefore a direct response to a perceived need for social control of the emancipated slaves. -
Post Emancipation Era -1974
The Trinidad and Tobago Government created a Draft Plan for Education Development.
The region accepted a similar draft Plan.
Jamaica implemented a radical transformation in their Educational System that would give rise to a "new deal" or perspective of education.
The old colonial type of education which was only for the working class was phrased out.
