Spanish-American War
The Spanish-American War happened as a result of the Spanish governance of Cuba. The cuban people were being suppresed, the US intervined leading to war in cuba, guam, the philippenes, and puorto rico. It was also one of the start of modern journalism, Hearst and Pulitzer radicaly exagerated the story in cuba, in an effort to raise sales. After the war, Spain relenquished control of Cuba, and sold Guam, the Phillipenes, and Puorto Rico for 20 Million, extending the US's reach all over the world. -
Steel company merger boosts steel production
After the 1870's, the production of steel was really blowing up, especially for the united states. One of the founding fathers of the steel industry was Andrew Carnegie, helping to found US Steel. by 1901, Carnegie and J.P. Morgan joined efforts, combining American Tin Plate, American Steel and Wire, and others. Valued at over 1.46 billion, this giant produced 66% of Americas Steel, and 30% of the worlds. -

After 23 years, the Canal is finally open, and is put to use for the first time. The canal connects the Pacific and Atlantic oceans, increasing trade and engraining the US's position as a world power across the world. -

After the zimmerman telegram, and the sinking of the Lusitania the US had had enough, and Pres. Wilson declared war with the Central Powers, with intentions of a "a war to end all wars" -

This laid the groundwork for others to do the same, increasing economy on the west coast, boosting the US even more. -

This was a landmark for the american people and the world, it reminds us that no matter where we came from, what we look like, what gender we are, were all people. And we all have inaliable rights as a human, including the right to a say in your government. -

The Great Depression
Fed owns up to DepressionThe depression was caused by a mix switching to a capitalist economy, and a bad monotary policy. The federal reserve has come fourth and said the Depression was their fault. The Federal Reserve was founded on the basis of stabalizing the nations economy. The problem was, especially in the years leading up to the depression most fed bankers sided with treasury views of getting rid of smaller banks, instead of bailing out small banks they let them die, losing millions of peoples money. -
FDR's "New Deal"
In the midst of the depression, FDR was alsmost a beam of hope, his new deal included the FDIC, to insure bank accounts with more than $2500, helping end the possibility of bank runs. He also put in place the Social Security System, FCIC(fed. crop insurance corp.), executive order 6102 which outlawed gold, the banking act of 33 that gave the president the power to declare economic emergency, etc. Mabye if the people who print the money didnt charge intrest, and run on an economy where the banke -

United Nations founded
The United Nations was founded to prevent WW3, after seeing the devastation of 2 world wars. This was to be everything the League of Nations wasnt. It was to promote peace and negotiations instead of war, and to try to bring all the nations together in the intrest of the people and the world. It showed the world that the US and all other nations, if we try hard enough can make decisions that benefit all, and we can prevent alot of war and death. When you hurt others, you hurt yourself. -

The cold war was basically a war between communism and democracy. After WW2 the US and Soviet Unions were both superpowers, and with clashing views on economics and government. This was a whole new kind of war, using spys in place of soldiers and information instead of bullets. (not to say there werent any soldiers or bullets). This hard-wired the US's views on government, freedom, and how important these views are to us. -

Korean War
The Korean war was a great example of our stand against communism, the Northern half of Korea had adapted a communist doctrine, the southern half did not. The US sided with the south, China with the north. The Korean war raised tensions in regard to the cold war, and showed that americans would get involved in situations around the world. If we seeit unfit and causing pain and suffering, we will intervine. I would definetly see that as a characteristic of a world power. -

Vietnam War
Vietnam was fought against communists, much like the korean war. China had sided with the north, cambodia was under communist rule as well. The Vietnam war is still a tense topic, especially after the DoD investigated it, and weather or not it was right to enter the war in the first place. However this was a very important event for the US's military, the Guerilla warfare the vietnamese people used caught the military off guard, and layed the work for alot of current-day military programs. -
First man on the Moon
This was really a landmark, not just for us but for all of humanity. 100 years before, if you had said we'd walk on the moon one day, you would have been laughed at, ridiculed, and called a lunatic. so imagine 100 years from then. Its coming faster than we thought, what we once thought of as science fiction may come to reality. Heck, we already got the communicators from star trek, why not the whole ship?
