    Potato Famine
    The country was ireland. The Potato Famine caused over a million people dead, and caused another million people to flee the country. Ireland’s great potato famine created a wave of Irish emmigration to Great Britain, Canada, and the United States. Great Irish Famine that began during the late 1840’s brought the greatest number of Irish immigrants to America. Before the famine began, Ireland was already a desperately poor country. The only European country controlled by another country.
  • Ellis Island

    Ellis Island
    In New York there was a place called Ellis Island. It was a place were people from around the world immigrated for a better life to find work,majority of first arrivers were men. They would then send for their wives, children, and siblings; others returned to their families in Europe with their saved wages. They left their countries because they heard about America letting people in from around the world.
  • World War 2

    World War 2
    The country was Germany . With Jewish refugees fleeing the Holocaust, a lot of them came to the U.S because of Hitler and his army. The war ended near the middle of the 20th Century. They immigrated to the U.S for a fresh start to their lives and away from Hitler. During the war it was very dificult to get out of Germany because of Hitler's ruling at the time. If it was even possible for Jews the get out of Germany or even Europe it was very difficult.

    The Cuban Revolution
    The country was Cuba. The Cuban Revolution had powerful domestic and international repercussions. People emigrated to the U.S because Castro was a dictator and transformed his country into the first communist state. People emigrated from Cuba because of Castro's dictatorship. They fled on Boats and rafts to get to the U.S. Some were sucsessful others were not. The people of Cuba moved to the U.S because it's the land of freedom and they didn't have to be under Castro's control.
  • Vietnam War

    The country was Vietnam. Before the war, there were almost no Vietnamese people living in the United States. The South Vietnamese government was unprepared for war and after the United States withdrew, it was crushed by North Vietnam. A large number of immigrants came as refugees fleeing persecution in Vietnam. The second wave of immigration happened beacuse of political and economic issues in Vietnam. Vietnamese people immigrated to the U.S to escape war.
  • Syrian Civil War

    Syrian Civil War
    The country was Syria. The crisis began in the year 2011, over 200,000 people had lost their lives during that time. An estimated 9 million Syrians have fled their homes since the outbreak of civil war. About 1500 people emigrated to the U.S because of war and cruelty. Syria was lacking in political progress, that is one of the reasons refugees decided to immigrate to the U.S. Syria is still fighting in their country till this day
