  • The Great Awakening

    The Great Awakening
    The Great Awakening was a widespread movement of evangelical sermons and revivals in the colonies. This happened because ministers and church leaders felt the people were losing their faith. During the Great Awakening ministers held revivals, which were public church gatherings. The colonists who went to the revivals started to believe in their religion again. This event was important because colonists started to demand political equality from the British authority.
  • French and Indian War

    French and Indian War
    The French and Indian War was a war against the British. Both the British and the French wanted control over the colonies and the trade routes causing a dispute between them. In the beginning, the French won most of the battles but started to lose their alliances with the Indians. With the British winning, both the French and British signed the Treaty of Paris. The British gained Canada and all the French lands east of the Mississippi. This lead to the Proclamation of 1763.

    The Proclamation of 1763
    The Proclamation of 1763 was a law the Britsh made saying the colonists couldn't go pass the Appalachian Mountains. The British government leaders did this because they feared more fighting would go on in the frontier. If any British colonists had already settled west of the mountains they would have to leave. Most colonists ignored this law, which also led them to hate Britain.

    Since the British were in debt from the French and Indian war they created the Sugar Act. The Sugar Act set taxes on molasses and sugar for colonists. Coloists potested and boycotted those items causing the British to repeal the act and propose the Stamp Act. This event was important because this was the first law the British created that was used to make money.

    So Parliment was pressured by both colonists and London merchants to repeal the act. In the end Parliment gave in. This event was important because the colonists united together against the British.

    Colonists were not happy with the sugar act, so Parliment let the colonists raise money on their own to pay for the French and Indian war. When they could't Parliment proposed the Stamp act. The Stamp Act placed taxes on all paper items. The colonists formed the Sons of Liberty; who boycotted paper items and scared tax collectors away. Since the colonosts were boycotting items, this took a toll on London merchants' sales.

    Townshend Act
    The Townshend Act put taxes on glass, lead, paints, paper, and tea to pay for war expences. This was placed on the colonists to replace the Stamp Act. The Sons of Liberty attacked the homes of tax collectors and boycotted the taxed items. Parliment sent soldiers to Boston and used writs of assiastance. Parliement repealed this act but kept the tax on tea.
  • Boston Massacrce

    Boston Massacrce
    The Boston Massacre was a fight between the colonists and British soldiers. Parliment sent British soldiers to Boston causing high tensions between them. Bostonians harrassed the soldiers and the soldiers harrassed the colonists back. A few colonists and soldiers got into a verbal fight which led to the soldiers to shoot 5 colonists. The colonists used this as a propoganda, leading people to believe the British soldiers went on a killing spree.

    A trial helped prevent further violence by quieting the unrest.
  • Tea Act

    The Tea Act was caused by the Parliment repealing the Townshend Act, but kept the tax on tea. The colonists again boycotted the taxed item and also used propoganda and held the Boston Tea Party. After all of this the British passed the Intolerable act. This event led to the Boston Tea Party.

    The Boston Tea Party was an act of rebellion against the Tea Act which placed taxes on tea. The colonists dressed up like Indians and dumped 90,000lbs of tea into the Boston Harbour. The consequences of this was the Intolerable Act.

    The Intolerable was used as a punishment for the Boston Tea Party. Parliment closed of the Boston Harbour, canceled Massachusetts' charters, moved trials of colonial officials to Britain, and allowed the Quartering Act and the Quebec Act. The colonists did a largescale boycott and convened the First Continental Congress. After four years Parliment finally repealed this act.
  • Battle of Lexington/Concord

    Battle of Lexington/Concord
    The Battle of Lexington and Concord was fought because the British was planning to capture the military weapons of the colonists in Concord. The colonists heard of this and moved their weapons elsewhere to other locations. The battle started at Lexington, but soon moved to Concord. The colonists won and had fewer casualties than the British.
  • Battle of Bunkerhill

    The Battle of Bunkerhill was improtant because it showed that the colonists could withstand a frontal assault from the British. this was caused by the British wanting to capture Charlestown. The colonists fled the battle and lost. Even thought the British won, they suffer about 1000 casualties while the colonists suffered about 400. This was a great feat for the colonists.
  • Common Sense

    Common Sense was a pamphlet written by Thomas Paine. Paine wrote Common Sense straight forward making it easy for everyone to understand it. He wrote contries shouild be ruled by laws made by the people. This gained alot of support by the colonists and some members of the Continental Congress felt they should make this a reality. This led to the Declaration of Independence.

    The Declaration of Independence was a document that seperated the 13 colonies from Great Britain. This event was caused by all of the taxes, laws, and battles Britain held against the colonists. This allowed each colony to have full power to levy wars, make taxes, and created alliances as those of independent states. This event was important becuase it freed the 13 colonies from Britains power, making them independent.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    Battle of Saratoga
    During the Battla of Saratoga Parliment sent British troops to take New York. The British troops were on their way to New York when the colonists stopped them. In the end the British surrendered. This was a great feat for the colonists.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    Battle of Yorktown
    The Battle of Yorktown was one of the last battles in the American Revolution. The Americans fought with the French Navy. Benedict betrayed the colonists and switched to Britains side. The French Navy kept the British from entering the Chesapeak Bay. The British surrendered so the colonists finally won the war.
  • Treaty of Paris

    Treaty of Paris
    The Treaty of Paris ended the war between Great Britain and America and their allies. The treaty made peace negotiations with Britain and established the boundries of America.
