    Founding Of Jamestown
    Captain John Smith was one of the 105 founders and settlers of Jamestown. The group found that Smith was one of the seven leaders of the new colony. He didn't stay there, though. After almost getting killed by a stingray, getting injured from a gunpowder explosion, and getting captured by the Chief of the Powhatan Indians, he went back to England.

    The Louisiana Purchase
    This occured out in the West. France and Spain were trying to negotiate for ownership of the Louisiana Territory, the area between the Rocky Mountains and the Mississippi River. Since Spain didn't want to turn Louisiana over to France, it closed the New Orleans port.
  • The Lewis and Clark Journey

    The Lewis and Clark Journey
    The Lewis and Clark Expedition happened right after the United States gained total control of the Louisiana Territory. President Thomas Jefferson chose two main people to go on this expedition. Their names are Captain Meriwether Lewis and Lieutenant William Clark. They originally called it the Corps of Discovery, but it soon became known as the Lewis and Clark Expedition.

    Nat Turner's Slave Rebellion
    Nat Turner was the most famous rebellion in the whole United States. He, along with 70 other men, rebelled and killed 55 white men. His followers were the first to be caught. Then came him. When he was captured, he was tried and hung. The white men then killed over 200 African Americans for revenge. The grip of slavery tightened.

    As I was saying with Uncle Tom's Cabin, the Fugitive Slave Act was passed in 1850. It was part of the Compromise of 1850. Some people liked it, some people didn't.

    This all started back in 1850, when a bill called Fugitive Slave Act was passed. An abolitionist writer Harriet Beecher Stove was enraged by this bill and in 1852, wrote a book about the slavery. That book was called Uncle Tom's Cabin. This made the South angry, which would further lead to the Civil War.

    The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand is what sparked the World War l. A month after that, on June 28, 1914, is when the war began. It was only the start of the bloodiest war ever.

    The 1900's were a time of excitement. A time when inventions like the radio and the airplane made anything possible. A lot of people invested their money, especially in the stock market. With the mood of the people, it seemed like something for the future. Stock prices began to rise and rise and rise until finally, in 1928, a stock market boom had begun. In 1929, a mini-crash had struck the stock market. Prices dropped dramatically, people panicked everywhere!

    World War II was started by a horrible man by the name of Adolf Hitler. He intended to invade Poland, even though Poland had guarantees that the French and British military would join with Poland. Finally, at 12:40 pm on August 31, 1939, Hitler had declared war. World War II (WWII) had begun.
  • Japan's Attack On Pearl Harbor

    Japan's Attack On Pearl Harbor
    The United States tried to negotiate with Japan on not continuing their connection with Asia. But, instaed of giving into U.S. demands, Japan surprisingly attacked Pearl Harbor. Explosions everywhere told everyone at the Pearl Harbor Base that this was not a drill. They did act fast, though. They sunk all 5 midget submarines that tried to attack them. Finally, after 2 hours, Japan left for its home country. The attack was over.

    World War II ends
    World War II ended with the surrender of the Axis Powers. This happened a week after Adolf Hitler commited suicide. Japan, though, was still fighting for a few months and was planning an invasion on America. But, atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki on August 6 and 9 and they finally surrendered. WWII finally ended.

    The March On Washington
    The March On Washington was largest demonstration ever seen in the U.S. Some 250,000 people attended this event to see what was happening. Those 250,000 people (only a quarter of those people were white) marched from the Washington Monument to the Lincoln Memorial. It was both a protest and a communal celebration.

    Ronald Reagen was inaugurated as 40th President. George H. W. Bush became the vice president of Reagen. His speech consisted of 2,452 words. During the inauguration, a total of 52 Americans were released from Iran after the painful 444 days that they were in there.

    On 9/11, terrorists hijacked 4 airplanes, crashing 2 into the North and South Towers. Nearly 3000 people were killed on that day. That was the largest amount of people killed ever by a foreign terrorist.
