Rosa Parks Arrested
On December 1, 1955, Ms. Rosa Parks chose to sit at the front of the bus in "white seating." She was arrested for her actions. Many other similar demonstrations or "sit-ins" happened around this time. The end result was freedom from most segregation. -
K-19 Commissioned
The Soviet Union completed their own nuclear powered submarine in 1960. Rushed through the testing process because of the arms race with America, much was cut short, and this ship was not totally sea worthy when it was commissioned on April 30, 1961. Several incidents occurred on this vessel that resulted in loss of lives. -

Older than my own Mother, this show has entertained Americans through the wholesome, factual, quizzing of contestants knowledge in many different areas. The first host was not our beloved Alex Trebek, but rather a Mr. Arthur Fazzin. -
MLK Assassinated
Martin Luther King, Jr., was assassinated on April 4, 1968. Dr. King is famously known for his involvement in the Civil Rights movement. -

On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong became the first man to walk on the moon. Although America had lost the "race to space", she won the race to the moon. -
Woodstock Begins
The Woodstock Concert took place on a dairy farm in New York State. Roughly 400,000 people celebrated peace and love and music. -
President Nixon Resigns
On August 9, 1974, President Richard Nixon became the first president to ever resign from office. He executed this action because of his involvement with the "Watergate Scandal". It is thought that Nixon would have been impeached had he not resigned. -

Most Vietnam Embassy employees are ordered to evacuate as the American military pulled out of Vietnam.
