Native America
Prior to the Europeans arriving at what would become known as the New World, the Native American people had developed a wide variety interactions with the environment and each other. They had a population growth with their new maize cultivations. They settled in places, such as the Northwest, where the ocean provided vast resources. The Great Plains also alllowed for hunting, where they had many bisons. -

Christopher Columbus
Christopher Columbus accidently discovered the Americas as he was traveling from Spain. This would put the Columbian Exchange into affect. -

The Columbian Exchange
The Columbian Exchange was the trading of goods between the Americas, Europe, and Africa, which would bring more people into the New World. This was the trading of crops and food, people, animals, and diseases from Europe to the Americas to Africa which would affect all the continents, such as European population growth, new resources and technology, diseases in the Americas, slaves, etc. -

This was an agreement between Spain and Portugal to settle conflicts over newly discovered lands. -

The Encomienda System
The Spanish colonies put the Native Americans to do labor work, where they said to protect and Christianize the Native Americans, but in reality, they were using this system to take their lands and to enslave them, for their agricultural needs. -

Diseases Introduced to the Native Americans
With the new Columbian Exchange, it had some downfalls for the Native Americans. It was bringing in diseases to North America, resulting in the deaths of many Native Americans. -

The Atlantic Slave Trade
The Europeans were in need of more poeple to work for them and grow their crops, so they turned to the African Americans. Their were three stages to this "triangular trade". First, they would take manufactured goods from Europe to Africa, which were exchanged for African slaves. Then, they would ship the slaves to the Americas and treated like cargo, stacked on top of each other. Finally they would return to Europe with cotton, sugar, tobacco, molasses and rum.
