  • Homestead Act

    The government gave out lad grants to people who asked for it. In the beginning, each person could get up to 160 acres. Since this land was in the plains area, drought caused many people to have to give up their land.
  • Morrill Act

    This act allowed the creation of land-grant colleges. The purpose of these colleges was to promote agriculture, military, ad other industry classes.

    Tweed swindled millions of dollars from many people simply to get money off of the people.
  • Credit Mobilier scandal

  • Panic of 1873

    People set to much money in various items, causing the banks to give out risky loans. In turn, everything failed.
  • Resumption Act

    The gold standard was put into place and greenbacks became the official way of money.
  • Battle of Little BIghorn

    In this battle, General Custard went to do recon near the Sioux Indians' land. When he found them therre, he commanded his men to head into battle, completely outnumbered. The natives won.

    The Chinese can no longer get into America legally.

  • Wabash, St. Louis and Pacific Railroad v. Illinois State

    The Supreme Court ruled that limited the rights of states to control commerce. It also created the Interstate Commerce Commission.
  • Haymarket Square

    What began as a peaceful roit, turned into a battlefield of sorts after and unknown person threw dynamite at the police. The people involved were of two different groups: the peaceful strike workers and the anarchists. After this, the National Labor Union fell.
  • Interstate Commerce Act

    This was designed to regulate railroad prices and especially the monopolies. However, it gave no actualy, useful power to the government so it did nothing.
  • Dawes Severalty Act

    This act gave the President permission to survey Indian lands and divide them up for individual Indians.

  • The Battle of Wounded Knee

    This is the last big battle of the Indians versus the Americans. In this, the whites were giving goods, such as blankets and food, to the natives when a gun went off. It sparked a battle and everyone but a few died.
  • Sherman Antitrust Act

    This act was meant to regulate monopolies. This was meant to encourage competition but also limit the amount.
  • Homestead Strike

    At the Homestead steel plant, workers went on strike over pay cuts. There was a lot of fighting and left ten people dead with sixty wounded.

  • Depression of 1893

    Lasted four years. Caused because of overbuilding, labor disorderes, and agricultural depressions. Free silver hurt.
  • Panic of 1893

    Start of a serious economic depression
  • Pullman Strike

    This was a strike from the American Railway Union near Chigaco. The workers struck the Pullman Palace Car Company.
  • Plessy v. Ferguson

    The Supreme Court ruled that it was legal for blacks to be "separate but equal."

  • Gold Standard Act

    Established that Gold was the only way to redeem paper money, which stopped the use of silver.
