    he Fugitive Slave Act of 1850 was one of the biggest events during slavery. It was put in effect to prevent runaway slaves from gaining their freedom even after escaping the south.   • Kansas-Nebraska Act

    Kansas-Nebraska Act
    The Kansas Nebraska Act was one of the most influential events leading up to the Civil War. In result, it opened up the territories of Kansas and Nebraska to settlers moving westward. It also repealed the Missouri Compomise of 1820 by allowing white settlers to determine whether or not the territories would allow slavery.

    The Election of 1860 served as the immediate cause of motion for the outbreak of the American Civil War.Lincoln won and caused outrage in the south.

    The Battle of Fort Sumter was the first battle of the American Civil War. However, ironically, there were no soldiers killed. The Union ended up surrenedering to the Confederate two days later.

    The Battle of Hampton Roads, more commonly known as Monitor vs. The Merrimack, was one of the most important naval battles of the American Civil War. The significance of the battle is that it was the first conference in combat of ironclad warships. In the end, it was somewhat of a tie considering both sides claimed victories.

    The Battle of Shiloh , commonly knwon as the Battle of Pittsburg Landing, was a major battle of the Civil War. It was fought in southwestern Tennessee. The Confederate Forces lanched a surprise attack on Union troops; however, they ended up retreating which allowed the Union to advance into norther Mississippi.

    The Emancipation Proclamation was a presidential proclimation that slaves in all rebelled states were now free; about 3.1 to 4 million slaves at that time. It was a major step for the Union in the Civil War. Click here for more information.

    The Battle of Gettysburg was fought on the 1st of July in 1863 and ended on the 3rd of July. The battles is known for being the only battle in the Civil War that had the largest number of casulaties. The Confederates ended up losing the battle and they were forced to retreat.
  • Surrender at Appomattox

    Surrender at Appomattox

  • Thirteenth Amendment

    Thirteenth Amendment
    This ammendment was passed on the 8th of December of 1865. It abolished the use of slavery, as well as other types of involuntary servitude, except for the use of it as punishment for crime. This officially ended slavery.
