    Fugatie Slave Act
    This act was approved by congress on September 18, 1850. It stated that any runaway slaves, if captured, were to be returned to their owner in the South. This wasn't good news for escaped slaves because if they were to return to their master, they were most likely to be beaten or worse.
  • Uncle Tom's Cabin Published

    Uncle Tom's Cabin Published
    This historical novel written by Harriet Beecher Stowe, was about anti-slavery and was considered the novel that started the Civil War.
  • Kansas-Nebraska Act

    Kansas-Nebraska Act
    The Kansas and Nebraska Act was about whether or not either of the states would become slave states or not. The final decision was to allow each to choose on its own whether or not they wanted slavery.
  • Battle at Fort Sumter

    Battle at Fort Sumter
    The Battle of Fort Sumter was the attack on Sumter in Charleston, South Carolina which surrendered beginning the Civil War.

    Also known as the Battle of Pittsburg Landing, this was a major battle of the Civil War. General Grant and his army lost a little land but overnight, reinforcements arrived and he pushed the Confederates back gaining their territory back.

    The Battle of Gettysburg was probably the most iconic battle of the Civil War but it came at a cost. The battle involved the largest number of casualties of the entire war and was probably the war's turning point.

    The Surrender at Appomattox Court House was one of the last battle of the Civil War. Confederate General Robert E. Lee gave the white flag to Union General Ulysses S. Grant's army.

    The death of Lincoln was a great loss for our country. Not long after the Civil War had ended, Lincoln was attending a play at Ford's Theater when a strong Confederate, John Wilkes Booth, shot him and Lincoln died not much later in a house across the street.

    The 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution officially abolished slavery in the U.S. This happened after the conclusion of the Civil War.

    If this election turned out any different with another winner, our country wouldn't be what it is today. Lincoln won this election to his rival, Douglas, and changed our country forever. There was almost no doubt Lincoln was the one to win, he was very popular with the northern states.
