Wave Hill Strike
The wave hill strike began in 1966 when the aboriginal stockmen walked off their job in an attemp to better their working conditions and gain their traditional land back. This strike lasted for 8 years when finally Wave Hill was given back to the aboriginals. The leader of the strike was Vincent Lingiari and when the land was handed back over to the aboriginals they poured the sand into his hand. -

The song My Island Home was originally written by Neil Murray for the Warumpi Band. The Warumpi Band recorded the song in 1986 and released it in 1987. Christine Anu released her version a decade later and sang it at the closing ceremony at the Sydney olympic games. -

The song treaty was written by Yothu Yindi, Paul Kelly and Midnight Oil. The song was written when Bob Hawke said there would be a treaty between Aboriginals and the Australian Government. The song was written to raise public awareness so the government would keep their promise. -
