This is a period of time from when people build their nation by constructing new things and bettering their surrounding by newer and improved items, such as maybe improve the gravel roads to cement ones. This started from around 1760 and continued on to the late 1900s. -

This is one of the many amendments in the constitution. The 18th amendment specifically deals with alcohol and where it is aloud and dealing with transportation and production of it. -

This is a policy of favoring native inhabitants as opposed to immigrants. People who were nativist believed they were true native americans. these people also created politic parties. -
Homestead Act
This was a law granting 160 acres of land to any U.S. citizen. This was passed by Congress in 1862. -
Susan B. Anthony
She played a pivotal role in the woman movement, which she lead with her partner, Elizabeth Cady Stanton. They both brought up women's right to vote. -
The Gilded Age
It got its name from Mark Twain - he meant that the period was "glittering on the surface but corrupt underneath." This is the time between the Civil War and WW1, when the U.S. grew quickly. -

He was a Scottish-American industrialist and philanthropist. Not to mention he was the head leader of the American steel industry from 1873 to 1901. He was a wealthy man because of this; he would donate some of his money to educational, cultural, and scientific institutions. -
Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882
This was a law restricting immigration into the United States. Spring of 1882 the President signed it and the law was passed by congress. This took a toll on Chinese labor immigration for 10 years. -

This was the result of the bombing that took place at a labor demonstration on May 4th, 1886, at the Chicago square. This also had a lasting effect labour movement in the United states. The Knights of Labor wee the ones to blame for this tragedy. -

This is also known as the General Allotment Act. This is a law that authorized President of the United States to be able to survey Indian land and distribute it equally. -
Jane Addams "mother of social work"
She was a pioneer American settlement activist/reformer, social worker (mother of), public philosopher, sociologist, author, and lead women's suffrage. (1889) She cofounded one of the first settlements in the U.S. -the Hull House in Chicago, Illinois- She also co-winner of 1931 Nobel Peace Prize -

William Jennings Bryan
He was an Nebraska congressman(1890). He also tried running for president (democrat) and said his Cross of Gold speech but was but lost to William McKinley(1896). -
Klondike Gold Rush
This was a migration of 100,000 of prospectors to the klondike region (in the Yukon territory of Canada) between 1896 and 1899 after gold was found in the area. This is known by two other names, the Alaska Gold Rush and the Yukon Gold Rush. -

Upton Sinclair
He was a novelist and political writer as well as one of the most important muckrakers of the 1900's. He was the author of The Jungle(1906), its a book that helped improve the working conditions in the meat packing industry. With his novel he also exposed the harsh working conditions as well as exposing the meat to everyone resulting to new federal food safety laws. -

This was a law passed in 1906 that prevented the sale and manufacture of poisonous/misbranded foods, medicine, drugs, and liquor. This was a piece of the Progressive Era Legislation. Not to mention tis was lead by the role of the muckrakers. -
Ida B. Wells
She was the first African-American journalist, newspaper editor, suffragist, sociologist, feminist, and an early leader in Civil Rights Movements. One important thing, she founded(1909) the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), this was for the african american rights. -
