Columbus sailed the ocean blue
Columbus sets off to find a route to Asia but hits an island of the new world and names it san salvador. He names the people there Indians. He made the new world known and started the rush of explorers coming to the new world in search of riches and land. -
Oct 7, 1511
First enslaved Africans arrive in the Americas
There was lots of work that needed to be done in the new world and the natives were not very useful. They couldn’t handle the intense work and were being killed off by disease. They brought Africans over for cheap labor on the sugar farms. The first were just the start of 300,000 to come. -
Oct 7, 1521
Cortés conquers Aztec Empire
Cortes came to the new world and conquered the Aztecs. Cortes spoke to natives who hated the Aztecs and together they rebelled and kidnapped Atahualpa. -
English found Jamestown
Jamestown was the first permanent English colony. Many of them died in the beginning though because they were focused on finding gold not farming. -
English found Plymouth
The Puritans sought religious freedom from England so they sailed to the new world and landed in Plymouth and started a colony. -
The French and Indian War Ends
This fight was caused by expanding territories of the French and English. The Brittish won and gained western part of north america
