Magna Carta
The Magna Carta was a document issued to let the King of Great Britain know that he and his government were not above the law. The king was imprisoning citizens unfairly. He was also implementing unfair laws regarding religion, property, and human rights. -
French and Indian War
This war was fought by Great Britain and France. Native American tribes chose sides to fight for as well. This was caused by the constant battle over land and waterway control. This was a 9-year-long battle that resulted in Britain winning and expelling the French from North America. -
The Crowning of King George III
King George III was known as "The king who lost American colonies". He was known to be unfair and arrogant, especially towards the colonists. King George III would purposely tax the colonists and pass unfair laws in order to benefit himself and Great Britain. -
The Stamp Act
British Parliament implemented an unfair tax on all paper products in the colonies. This unfair tax caused the colonists to be enraged. This was effective due to Great Britain needing to regain funds after The 7 Year War. Patrick Henry's famous quote in response to The Stamp Act was "Give me Liberty or give me Death." -
The Townshend Act
The Townshend Act was a tax implemented by the British Parliament. This taxed all goods imported to American colonies. The colonists had no representation but knew this was abuse of power on the British side. This caused more tension between the colonists and Great Britain. -
The Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre was a deadly riot between British soldiers and American colonists. It started off as a regular fight between colonists and soldiers. This quickly escalated as British soldiers started firing their weapons at the crowd of colonists. 5 colonists were killed while 6 were injured. -
The Boston Tea Party
The Boston Tea Party was a protest against unfair taxation. Colonists gathered up at the Boston Harbor and threw chests of tea into the water. This was to show the British that they were fed up with their unfair taxation. A famous quote was "Taxation without representation". -
American Revolutionary War
The war started due to tension between America and Great Britain. Britain attempted to control colonists by unfairly taxing them and killing their people. The colonists had enough and wanted to declare independence. This was until British soldiers marched to Concord, Massachusettes and set fire on the colonists. -
The Declaration of Independence
After years of battle with Great Britain, it was time for American colonists to be free from their tyrannic rule. The Declaration of Independence was a document declaring independence from British rule. This document was drafted by Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, and many more. -
Ratifying the Constitution
After trial and error, America finally lived in unity. Adjusting after finally being free from Great Britain was difficult for the colonists. They created their own states which had their own rules. Without a central government, it made things very difficult in terms of trade due to the currency differences. After a long debate, they all agreed on The Constitution being ratified. This allowed them to live under the same rules and having government leaders to implement laws.
