13th Amendment
Nobody will be forced to work as a salve not even to get paid unless it punishment. -
14th Amendment
Defines what is means to be a citizen in the united states and protects some our rights. -
15th Amendment
This amendment allows african americans to vote. -
Plessy V Feguson
A group of citizens decided to protest and used the man Homer Plessy who was 7/8 black and 1/8 white. Because of the law this made Plessy ride in the colored people part of the train. He sat in the Whites only part of the train and got arrested for it. This relates to the lesson because we are learning about racial segregation and this case was about segregation -
Civil Disobedience
Refusal to obey certain laws and commands of a government. -
Nonviolent Protest
Peacfully assembyling without violence. -
Desegregation
The ending of two different groups that didnt like eachother. -
Jim Crow Laws
This law wanted them to be separated in the southern states. -
Sharecropping
A land owner allows a person to use the land and extange with thier fruits and vegetables. -
Affirmative Action
The act of taking the action to end all discrimination. -
Thurgood Marshall
Marshall was born in Baltimore Maryland. He went studied at Howard University. He won the Brown v Board of Education Case. Which later Supreme Court ended the racial segregation in schools. He served in the Supreme Court for 24 years and died on January 24 1993. -
Orval Faubus
He was an American Politian. He was against the desegregation of Little Rock Central High School. He died on Decemeber 14 1994. -
Rosa Parks
Rosa Parks was born in Tuskegee, Alabama. She didn't give up her seat to w white person on the bus caused a “city wide boycott”. City of Montgomery decided to life the law of the bus segregation. Rosa died on October 24 2005. -
Hector P. Garcia
He was a mexican american surgeon in the World War 2. -
Lester Maddox
He was an American polititan. He had a cfeteria and only allowed whites only. He died on June 24 2003 -
George Wallace
He was the governmer of Albabma from the 1960's to the 80's. He is strgonly rmemberd for his support of racial segregation. He died on September 13 1998 -
19th amendment
This amendment allows women to vote. -
Betty Friedan Brown
She was a feminist and Women's right writer. She died on February 4 2006. -
Cesar Chavez
He was born in Arizona. He was a farm worker and a civil rights activist. He was one of the founder of the National Farm Workers Association. -
Martin Luther King Jr.
King was born in Atlanta, Georgia and went to Boston University. He was a civil rights activist and at the same time a minister. He made a very impacting speech in 1963 “I Have a Dream” he won the Noble Peace Prize in 1964. He got assassinated on April 4 1968. -
20th amendment
Pretty much this amendment just has the specific date on when we vote for president and what would happen if something were to happen to the current president. -
Federal Housing Authority
FHA Lets people get loans from banks when wanting to build a home. -
Brown v Board of Education
Ended legal segregation in the public schools. -
Montgomery Bus Boycott
African Americans refused to ride the busses in Alabama to protest the segregation seating on busses. This event took place from December 5 1955 to December 20 1956. The bus companies lost a lot of business and a lot of money due to this event. -
Civil rights of 1957
Eisenhower signed this to allow the african americans voting rights. Black soldiers would come from war and think it would be unfair to not be able to vote. -
Sit-Ins
This protest took place on February 1 1960. Diners had plenty of seats but it was only for the white people who could sit. 4 african americans decide to try and end this and they sat there. While they sat there the restaurant did not serve them but the 4 guys stayed there. The restaurant finally called the police and after that the restaurants were pressured into removing those rules. -
Civil rights act of 1964
This Civil rights act ended the segregation between the whites and the blacks. Banned the color, sex, religion and employment discrimination. -
24th amendment
Long ago we had to pay fee to vote. With this amendment we don't have to pay anything in order to vote. -
Veterans Rights Act 1965
Civil Right veteran and Congress man John Lewis urged black clergy to work fot the changes of the voting rights act. -
Head start program
A program it is an 8 week summer school for kids who’s parents with low income before going into school. -
Upward bound
Program which provides fundamental support for students to get into college with parents who have low income. Helps them pursuit their dreams. -
26th amendment
This amendment allows 18 year olds to vote in any election. -
Title IX
A law that prohibits discrimination (sex, race, skin color etc).
