Underwater Photography
Underwater Photography has been around for a very long time and has been used in many movies, television shows, etc. -
The First Underwater Photograph
Louis Boutan took the first underwater photograph in Banyuls-Sur-Mer with help from a mechanic named Joseph David. They took a picture of a diver named Emil Racovitsa. They used a magnesium flash gun developed by Chauff Our. Many other people have been considered to have made the ffirst underwater photograph but Louis is the most widely considered. -
Underwater Movies
John Williamson created a wonderful device that made underwater cinematography practical. The camera and crew worked in a sphere attatched to a long tube to a surface support vessel. The first commercial motion picture accommadation of Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea benefited from this device. Many other movies did too. This happened in the 1900's. -
First Underwater Photo in Color
National Geographic published the first underwater photo in color. The photographers who shot the photo were Dr. William Longley and National Geographic staff member, Charles Martin. -
The Aqualung
Jacques Yves Cousteau and Emile Gagnan unraveled the first independant, compressed-air underwater breathing system. This device used a demand valve to deliver pressurized air when inhaling. The Aqualung evolved diving, and gave photographers fantastic freedom to expirement with underwater photographic equipement. -
An Underwater Camera with a Wider Range
Also with Cousteau's help, a belgian inventor named Jean de Wouters developed the CalypsoPhot 35mm underwater rangefinder. This led to the unraveling of Nikon's Nikonos series cameras, which dominated the underwater photography market until digital cameras became ordinary. -
Underwater Photography Today
Today underwater photography has a very wide range and is easy to do. Underwater cameras are common and can be very inexpensive. They are also easy to carry around and are easy to use. -

In the future underwater photography will be able to work on apple products. Also it will have a much wider ranges. Underwater photography will be available on any electronic, even a computer! There be more clear and colorful photos with no red eyes or blur.
