There have been few novels in American history that have grabbed the spotlight and caused as great an uproar as Uncle Tom's Cabin. Stowe showed to much of the nation that didn't know how evil slavery could be.. Although banned in most of the south, it was generally regarded as one of the major causes of the Civil War.
