Triple Alliance(pre-WWI)

Purpose: In 1879 Germany and Austria-Hungary agreed to form a Dual Alliance. This became the Triple Alliance when in 1882 it was expanded to include Italy. The three countries agreed to support each other if attacked by either France or Russia. May 1882 but is renewed every 5 years. Renewed periodically until World War I -
Triple Entente(pre WWI)
Countries:Britain,France,Russia
Type:Political/Military
Purpose: Russia, who feared the growth in the German Army, joined Britain and France to form the Triple Entente. The Russian government was also concerned about the possibility of Austria-Hungary because the empire was growing. It went into effect with the signing of the Anglo - Russian Entente on 31 August 1907. -
Central Powers(WWI)
Countries: Germany,Austria-Hungary,Ottomon-Empire,Bulgaria
Type:Political/Military
Purpose: Germany
Austria-Hungary
Ottoman Empire (joined the Central Powers in 1914)
Bulgaria (joined the Central Powers in 1915).
In 1917 the United States declared it would enter the war against the Central Powers. Same as the Triple Entente before WWI. -
OPEC
Type: Economic
Countries: Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia
Purpose: Countries with high amounts of oil reserves have come together to control and regulate oil distribution/prices. -
PLO
Type: Cultural
Countries: Region of Palestine
History/Explanation: The Palestine pushing to get the land that was taken away from Isreal.
