  • 15th Amendment

    15th Amendment
    This amendment prevents people from being denied the right to vote based on race. Suffrage was granted to all races however restrictions were placed on former slaves to prevent them from voting. Constitution Center

    19th Amendment

    Alice Paul
    Alice Paul was an American women's Rights activist. She helped pass the 19th amendment which gave women the right to vote and also drafted the Equal Rights Amendment of 1923 in efforts to secure full equality for women.

    Freedom Summer
    Freedom summer started in June 1964 and was known as the Mississippi Summer Project. This project was meant to increase the number of registered Black voters in Mississippi. There were a total of 17,000 attempted registrations but only 1,200 were successful. History.com
  • 24th Amendment

    This amendment got rid of the poll tax which prevented former slaves who had little to no money from being discriminated. The poll tax was created to make sure that former slaves would have a very hard time voting. It was ratified in January of 1964. Constitution Center

    Voting Rights Act of 1965
    The voting rights act of 1965 outlawed all discriminatory voting practices. These included literacy tests and other things that could prevent certain groups of people from voting. Congress passed the bill on August 5th 1965. National Archives

    This amendment gave all citizens that were 18 years of age or older the right to vote. This was created because people who were fighting in war but were under 21 were not able to vote. Constitution Center

    The Motor Voter Law
