    *The main features involved in the Industrial Revolution were technological, socioeconomic, and cultural.
    * In the period 1760 to 1830 the Industrial Revolution was largely confined to Britain.
    * Germany, despite vast resources of coal and iron, did not begin its industrial expansion until after national unity was achieved in 1870.

    *The textile industry, in particular, was transformed by industrialization

    *To Jefferson, westward expansion was the key to the nation’s health
    *He believed the republic relied on the independent
    *The Manifest Destiny began in 1840 and 40% of america lived in the trans-Appalachian West.
    *The Missouri Compromise was in the 1820 butThe Missouri compromise did not apply to new territories that were not part of the Louisiana Purchase
  • Abolotinist Movement

    Abolotinist Movement
    • The abolitionist movement was an event intended to end racial discrimination and segregation, and the emancipation of all slaves.
    • The events that took place during the movement are small [parts that led up to the Civil War.
    • African American’s tried to convince many people that they were human too, but many people still did not see whites and blacks equally.
    • In December 1833, the American Anti-Slavery Society was formed.
  • The case of Scott and Standford

    *Blacks where not aloud to vote
    *Scott sued for his freedom
    *He was a landmark for the courthouse
    *Dred Ford helped whether enslaved or free, could not be American citizens and therefore had no standing to sue in federal court

  • Condederate states were formed

    Condederate states were formed
    *These were in order to preserve slavery, states’ rights, and political liberty for whites.
    *After 10 years the last condederate state was given to Georgia. this happened 5 years after the Civil War
    *There was only $27 million worth of specie in the Confederacy, and money remained scarce.
    *The Confederacy never won the loyalty of the black population
    *They lost almost steadily after the first terrible week of July 1863
  • Army of the Northen of Virgina

    Army of the Northen of Virgina
    *Robert e Lee lead this army
    *The Confederacy's main fighting force in the Eastern Theater
    * Referred to has "Lee's Army"
    *site of the War's most famous battles.

  • Anaconda Plan

    Anaconda Plan
    *The Anaconda Plan was a strategy to cut off or "stragnle" the confederate states, like and anaconda.
    *It was developed by General Winfield Scott.
    *In 1865, Robert E Lee became a leading figure in the war.
    *One strategy Scott had was to blockade the entire South with the US navy closing all southern ports.
  • Civil War Medicine and diseases

    Civil War Medicine and diseases
    *During the Civil War, both sides were devastated by battle and disease.
    *People in the Civil war didn't get to take a shower daily, and so this caused spreading of diseases
    * Poeple were in closed together and so things spreaded easily.
    *Doctors didn't know about germs, so they didn't wash their hands after caring for someone.
    *These are just some of the things that caused the Diseses from the Civil War

  • Sherman's March

    Sherman's March
    *Sherman’s soldiers did not destroy any of the towns in their path, but they stole food and livestock and burned the houses and barns of people who tried to fight back.
    *Sherman led some 60,000 soldiers on a 285-mile march from Atlanta to Savannah, Georgia.
    *The purpose of this was the frighten Georgias population
    *Sherman’s “total war” in Georgia was brutal and destructive
