    The increase in industry and rebirth of America occured within this time period. This included a growth of factories, cities, mass production, the assembly line, and many inventions. This time period made America what it is today.

    Here at a court house in Virginia, General Robert E. Lee surrendered to General Ulysses S. Grant ending the Civil war. This started the age of reconstruction and healing of Ameica.

    The Reconstruction
    The age of Reconstruction was about bouncing back from the Civil War. The North was trying to reunite with the South and conjoin them to form one strong nation.
  • Creation of the Panama Canal

    Creation of the Panama Canal
    Construction of the canal begun in 1881 under the French but was soon abandoned and taken over by America in 1898 by Teddy Roosevelt. The canal helped America with trade because time of travel could now be cut in half because ships now didn't have to travel around South America.

    War in which America, fighting against Spain, sought to protect Cuba and wanted to have ultimate rights to it add it to their sphere of influence. After ten weeks America won the conflict, granting them the right to look over Cuba

    Smerica joins WWI after the US Luisitania with American passengers on it is sunk by a German submarine. America called this the war to end all wars.

    America is finished fighting in WWII after taking over many trenches from Germany. Germany and America finished their fighting by signing in armistice with the Germans meaning victory for the allies.

    Time period after the war when phones, cars, and electricity boomed along with economic prosperity because people had spending money. Dancing, jazz music, and flappers also appeared during this time. This was a good time of U.S. history where everything seemed to be going right.

    The sale and use of alcohol was banned until 1933. This just led to rum-runners and speak easies to hide and sneak alcohol.

    A large drop in the stock market led to the closure of banks because people wanted their money but the banks didnt' have any to give out. Unemployment also skyrocketted during the time leaving many Americans on the streets.

    A series of economic programs and laws were passed in order to recover from the great depression. All these laws involved the 3 r's Relief, Recovery, and Reform
  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor
    A surprise attack from Japanese bombers killed 3,500 Americans and sunk or terribly damaged all 8 ships there. This was the turning point for America to join World War II.
  • The U.S. Joins WWII

    The U.S. Joins WWII
    On Dec. 7 the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor with a surprise attack.. This infuriated the U.S., causing them to join the war shortly after.

    U.S.Terminates WWII
    The U.S. ended their part of the war after dropping atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Due to the destruction of these bombs, Japan surrendered.

    A period of time in which many wars occured lasting until 1991 including the Korean War, World War II, and the Cuban Missle Crisis.The space race also occurred in this time where the United States and Russia were racing to get a man onto the moon. This wasnt 1 war but a series of conflicts in which nuclear warfare was also used.

    This was a civil war between North and South Korea due to heated political disputes throughout the country. The United states supported South Korea and supplied 88% of their troops.
  • The Vietnam War

    The Vietnam War
    By joining the civil war between North and South Korea, America was trying to prevent the takeover of communism in South Korea.The war had been going on for ten years before the U.S. got involved because South Korea was beggining to struggle.
  • America's acquisition of Hawaii

    America sought to take control of Hawaii because it would give them a large advantage by provinding them with a stop for ships between the U.S. and Asia. And in 1998 it was claimed as a territory of America but not declared a state until later in 1959.
  • The Gulf War

    America led 34 countries to dethrown Iraq after the invasion of the Iraqui people into Kuwait. The war was tough until a cease-fire treaty was signed almost seven months later.
  • Terrorist Attack on the Twin Towers

    Terrorist Attack on the Twin Towers
    A series of four coordinated attacks organized by Islamic terrorists who took over commercial airliners and flew them into the world trade center. Most people in the towers, espicially on higher levels, died due to the collapse of the towers two hours later.

    The war on Afghanistan also known as the global war on terror. The mission was started to end terrorism from Islams in the United States
  • The Invasion of Iraq

    The Invasion of Iraq
    Mission in which America and a few other countries went into Iraq to disarm the of their weapons of mass destruction and to free the Iraqui people. This event led to the Iraq war and more conflicts overseas.
