    The Reconstruction Era
    The Reconstuction Era became a prime event shortly after the Civil War had ended. It sparked the beginning of new rights, such as voting rights, for African Americans in the U,S, It was ended by President Rutherford B. Hayes after he signed a deal to help try to improve the U.S. in ways like imrpoving lives of African Americans and help accquire federal aid to the government.

    The Industrial Revolution
    The Industrial Revolution States due to influences from Britain. During the time of the Revolution, new machines were built that were powered by steam and coal. These new machines led to more labor intensive jobs for people. Men, women, and children took on jobs in places such as factories. This revolution helped us form the world as we know it today more than most eras.

    The Civil War was ended by the surrender of the South at the Appomattox Court House.Lee surrendered to Grant in the morning.

    Acquisition of Hawaii
    In 1893, the Queen of Hawaii was overthrown by business owners who wanted annexation of Hawaii. Hawaii soon set up its own independent republic since its annexation was denied. Soon, people in Hawaii became U.S. citizens and Hawaii was eventually U.S. property.

    Spain and America had a war against each other. It began when the Battleship Maine was sunk. The war was ended after the signing of the Treaty of Paris. This defeat for Spain caused Spain to lose most of their land overseas.

    The Panama Canal was a Canal that was meant to run right through Central America to make trading by water routes easier. The construction was picked up by America on November 18, 1903. It took about 40 years for it to finally be opened up for the public to use.

    World War One
    WWI began when Germany invaded Belgium and other countries slowly began joining in. The U.S. stayed neutral up until April 6, 1917 when they joined France and Britain. On May 18, 1917, the U.S. passed the Selective Service Act which allowed all men from ages 21 to 30 to enlist in the military services of the U.S. In September of 1918, the U.S. invaded a German line of troops in France. The U.S. and France captured about 25,000 prisoners and Germany decided that they would put and end to fighting

    The Prohibition was the time in the U.S. when the manufacturing and sale of alcohol was forbidden. The Volstead Act, which was put into effect on October 28, 1919 was the act which fully established Prohibition. Prohibiton led to many Speakeasys pop up across major cities in the U.S. and gangs transporting alcohol.

    The Roaring 20s was an decade that took place in the 1920s. This era is widely known for its cutural difference from the past decades. There was a new jazz culture, a new culture of women that were called flappers, and economic wealth grew tremendously. Many illegal speakeasys popped up in major cities due to the bans on alcohol to be sold and manufactured.

    The Great Depression was a time of despair and poverty for most people in the U.S. that occured after an economic crash. The Great Depression was an era that came after the economic boom of the 1920s. Previously, people could become wealthy overnight. Now, people were selling many of their family posessions just for tiny sums of money. This era led right up to WWII, when it slowly started to turn around.

    The New Deal was a series of actions made by Franklin D. Roosevelt to help improve the economic state of the U.S. during the Great Depression. These improvements focused on relief, recovery, and reform. These improvements laid down the foundation for the economic growth of the U.S. during WWII.

    World War 2
    WWII was the second world war which was overall between the Allies and the Axis Powers. In September of 1940, the U.S. created the Draft Bill which caused most men from ages 21 to 35 in the U.S. to enlist in military services. On December 7, 1941, Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. This bombing on Pearl Harbor led to the U.S. bombing Japan in March of 1945 and eventually the dropping of the Little Boy and Fat Man bombs on Japan which occured on August 6th and 9th in 1945 which led Japan's surrender.

    Pearl Harbor
    The bombing of Pearl Harbor was a bombing by Japan on the Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. Japanese warplanes attacked American harbors. As a result, over 2300 men died. This attack could not be prevented very easily due to the early stages of radar being developed. Men at radar stations were not sure what was appearing on the radar, so they left it alone.

    The Cold War was a tense time when the U.S. was very suspicious of Russia's communism. The countries had fought together as allies, so Russia knew that the U.S. was sure that Russia was a communist country. During The Cold War, the U.S. and the USSR were very competitive"with each other. The Space Race occured during The Cold War, which was mainly the USSR and the U.S. trying to get into space first.By 1991, the Cold War had ended as the Berlin Wall was torn down and the Soviet Union fell apart.

    The Korean War was a war between North Korea and its communist supporters and South Korea and its anti-communist supporters. The U.S. strongly supported South Korea and even got involved in most battles. China was the major supporter of North Korea. The war ended with an armistice on July 27, 1953.
  • The Vietnam War

    The Vietnam War
    The Vietnam War was a war that took place in Vietnam and was considered one of the worst wars America has fought in due to the amount of American deaths resulting from the war. Nationalist forces were trying to make Vietnam a Communist country while the U.S. and the South Vietnamese tried to stop the spread of Communism. On March 29, 1973, U.S.A. stopped involvement with the war in Vietnam.
  • The Gulf War

    The Gulf War
    The Gulf War was a war that included coalition forces which were led by the U.S. as they attacked Iraq after Iraq wanted to invade and annex Kuwait. Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein blamed Kuwait for stealing oil which led to Iraqi forces invading Kuwait. On February 27 and 28, 1991, American troops went into Kuwait and managed to get the Iraqi forces to agree to a ceasefire. U.S. troops began coming home on March 17, 1991.

    September 11, 2001, or 9/11, was a series of four terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center Buildings in New York and The Pentagon in Washington D.C. These attacks were planned by the terrorist group Al Qaeda. This is one of the most tragic events looked at in U.S. history and it has led to many strict changes with national security in the U.S.
  • Operation Enduring Freedom

    Operation Enduring Freedom
    Operation Enduring Freedom, or The War in Afghanistan, is a war that is one war currently under the bigger Global War on Terror. This war was triggered after the attacks on September 11th. Almost immediately, the U.S. began Operation Enduring Freedom in an effort to combat terrorism in and from Iraq. The Operation spread to the Philippines and the Horn of Africa for some times but is no longer in those areas.

    The Iraq War is a war that is under the entire Global War on Terrorism. This war started after the UN needed to know if Iraq owned weapons of mass destruction. The UN could not fully trust that Iraq had no WMD since they had no proof that there were none. The U.S. soon invaded Iraq in search of ending any type of terrorism led by Iraq. This first invasion led to a longer phase of fighting which raged on for years.
