    The Appomattox Court House is where Gen. Robert E. Lee surrendered his Confeterate troops to Gen. Ulysses S. Grant. This was not the end of the Civil War. However, it was a major turning point for the Union.

    The Spanish-American War was mostly over freedom in the U.S. and Cuba from Spain. The War ended with signing of the Treaty of Paris in 1898. The result of the war was Spain losing control of many islands suchas Cuba and Puerto Rico.

    The Panama Canal was a massive canal that went through the middle of North and South America, also called Central America. Travelers from East coast U.S. or Europe would now not have to sail all the way around South America and reach the West coast U.S. half as fast.

    World War One was a conflict between Germany, Austria-Hungary, and the Ottoman Empires (the Central Powers) against Great Britian,France, Russia, Italy, adn Japan (the Allie Powers). The United States joined the allies on May 7, 1915 when Germany sank a British ship with 128 Americans on it that died. The Allies defeated the central Powers on November 11, 1918.

    Prohibition/Roaring 20's
    The Roaring 20s was an era that held many changes such as women becoming more social, the invention of jazz, and more night clubs with music and dancing. Prohibition, in 1918 banded all alchol from the United States. However, this led to more robberies and illegal bars that supplied illegal alchol.

    The Great Depression and the New Deal
    The Great Depression was a horrible time when people lost their jobs and money due to the stock market crash in 1929. The New Deal was an attempt by President Franklin Roosevelt to help Americans gain money and get their jobs back.

    World War Two was a war with Germany and Japan (the Axis) against Great Britian and France. On December 10, 1941 the United States joined the Allies. During the war the U.S. droppeed two atomic bombs and on September 2, 1945 the Axis surrendered the the Allies.

    The Japenesse attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 with hundreds of planes dropping bombs and killing over 2,000 Americans. Pearl Harbor is now a memorial burial ground and the day of the surprise attack is a day that many will never forget.

    The Korean War started whe aout 75,000 North Korean troops invaded the 38th parallel, the border of North and South Korea. The U.S. tried to join sides with North Korea but they were scared if they did this the sides would greaten resulting in a possible World War Three.

    The Cold War was a tense war over fear of the Russians and their plan to take over the world. During this war both countries (Russia and the U.S.) were scared that either side would launch atomic bombs, even though no blood was shed from either side.

    The Korean war was North Vietnam and Viet Cong against South Vietnam and the U.S. During this long war about 3 million died, 58,000 being Americans and half of the rest were Vietnamese citizens. In 1973 the U.S. retreated their forces and in 1975 North Vietnam won the war.

    The Gulf War was mainly between Suddam Hussein, leader of Iraq, and the U.S. In August 1991 Iraq retreated from Kuwait and by then the United States were using air attacks and desert raids to defeat Hussein in Febuary 1991.

    On September 11, 2001 four Islamic terroists hijacked four airliners and flew two into the World Trade Center towers in New Work, one into the Pentagon in Washington D.C. another one a field in Pennsylvania. These suicide attacks was a major reason of why the Iraq War started.

    Operation Enduring Freedom is another name for the War in Afghanistan. The U.S. did this because of the attacks on 9/11, and Great Britian and Germany would later join the war.

    Opertion Iraqi freedom was an attempt from George Bush to finish off Suddam Hussein and not allow him to make any weapons for mass destruction. This was also an effect of the attackson 9/11.

    The Invasion/start of war in Iraq was started by George W. Bush to disarm or stop Iraq in mass destuction. The Iraqi War is still going on and many other countries have joined the United States's side.
