    Jamestown, Virginia, named after king James I was the first English settlement in North America. It was founded by the Virginia Company, which are the people who selected this area because it was surrounded by water on three sides, which allowed an easy defense against Spaniards, and no previous natives were living here.     In Salem Village Massachusetts, young women (few men) who were acting as "outcasts" in society were put on trial to see if they were a witch, and many were killed. Many of the tests were proven inaccurate which is why the public went against this idea as they soon realized people were dying over nothing. In return, the colonists developed more independence and acted with more of a "self-government" attitude. This event has a strong relation to the American Revolution.
