    Alaska is purchased from Russia

    The United States bought Alaska for 7.9 million from Russia. Russia was in war debt, so they had to sell it. Selling Alaska was also a strategic move by Russia against Great Britain.

    The Chinese Exclusion Act restricted Chinese immigrants from entering the United States. It was the first law passed by the US to ban a specific group. Chinese in the US couldn't obtain citizenship either.

    Ellis Island opens for immigrants coming to the United States. The first immigrant to come through Ellis Island was Annie Moore. It operated for more than 60 years before closing. A replacement facility would take its place in Manhatten.

    The goal of the Boxer Rebellion was to force out all foreigners from China. The rebellion started from a Chinese society known for its skills in boxing. It weakened the Chinese government and increased influence from the West.

    The Tenement Act improved living conditions for inhabitants of Tenements. It banned dumbbell-shaped tenements and had new requirements. New requirements included outward-facing windows, indoor bathrooms, proper ventilation, and fire safeguards.
