    Standard Oil was the first Oil refinery in Cleveland. The company was so successful which led to Rockefeller being one of the most powerful men in America with a monopoly. This monopoly and Rockefeller's business tactics led to the passing of the Antitrust laws.

    Chinese Exclusion Act
    The Chinese Exclusion Act were laws passed that prevented Chinese laborers from immigration the America. It was the first act ever passed which prevented an entire ethnic group from immigration to their country. These laws remained in use and renewed twice until 1943.

    Ellis Island opens
    Nearly 700 immigrants passed through Ellis Island the day the station opened. Over 450,000 passed through the station throughout the rest of the first year opened. 17 year old Annie Moore from County Cork, Ireland was the first immigrant to ever be processed and passed through the first Ellis Island station.

    The US declared war on Spain after the sinking of the Battleship Marine in Havana. The war was short, as of starting in April of 1898 and ending in December of 1898. It ended with the signing of the Treaty of Paris, with Spain losing control of Cuba, Guam, the Philippines and Puerto Rico.

    Sweatshop at the third floor of a building where workers were stuck in dangerous conditions. A fire broke out causing the death of 145 women. The incident caused for change in reform in New York, by making laws protecting workers and their safety.

    The Assassination on Austria’s archduke Franz Ferdinand starts WWI
    June 28, 1914, Franz Ferdinand and his wife went to visit the capital of Sarajevo. On the visit, they were both assassinated on terms of disagreement, surronding the Annex. Austria-Hungary blamed the Serbian government and declared war, launching WWI.

    Unites States attempted neutrality during WWI, but ultimately failed when trading war goods with the allies. Axis powers were upset and began sinking american ships with passengers abroad. Then later attempted getting Mexico to start war with the United States. The U.S. decided to declare war on Germany, after the note to Mexico was intercepted, revealing Germany's plan.

    Women got the right to vote
    Starting in early 1800's, women began fighting for the right to vote. The fight for equality lasted one hundred years. On the date, June 4, 1919, congress passed the bill and went on to be ratified on August 18, 1920.
