Renaissance
This period in Europe it was a transition between the Middle Ages and the beginnings of the Modern Age. Its main exponents are in the field of arts, although there was also a renewal in science, both natural and human. The Renaissance was the result of the dissemination of the ideas of humanism, which determined a new conception of man and the world and study and learning of the people of all social classes. There was a growing intersted in the ideas of the ancient Greeks and Romans. -

Henry Tudor (of the house of Lancaster) was crowned. The first Tudor Monarch. -

Henry VII
Between the battle of Bosworth (1485) and his death (1509), Henry VII did as much as he could to make sure that the Tudors would keep the throne. He re-establish law and order in England after the problems of the Wars of the Roses, and was very successful at improving the royal finances. -

Henry VIII
He changed the religion of his country, fought successful wars and emptied the royal treasury. Henry has been one of the most talked about monarchs ever since. -

English Reformation
The reformation had started in Europe in 1517 when Martin Luther questioned the teachings of the Catholic Church. Between 1529 and 1536 Henry VII quarrelled with the Pope. England became a Protestant country. -
Period: 1536 to 1540
Dissolution of monasteries
Henry VIII, closed almost 800 monasteries, and sold or gave away his lands. He did this to break the power of Rome in England and to acquire money. -

Edward VI
Edward VI (1537 – 1553) was King of England and Ireland from 28 January 1547 until his death. He was crowned on 20 February at the age of nine. Edward was the son of Henry VIII and Jane Seymour, and England's first monarch to be raised as a Protestant. During his reign, the realm was governed by a regency council because he never reached his majority. The council was first led by his uncle Edward Seymour. -

Queen Mary I
Mary I (1516 – 1558) was the Queen of England and Ireland from July 1553 until her death. She is best known for her aggressive attempt to reverse the English Reformation, which had begun during the reign of her father, Henry VIII. The executions that marked her pursuit of the restoration of Roman Catholicism in England and Ireland led to her denunciation as "Bloody Mary" by her Protestant opponents. -

Queen Elizabeth I
Elizabeth I was Queen of England and Ireland from 1558 until her death on 1603. She was the daughter of Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn, his second wife, who was executed after Elizabeth's birth. Anne's marriage to Henry VIII was annulled, and Elizabeth was declared illegitimate. Her half-brother, Edward VI, ruled until his death in 1553, bequeathing the crown to Lady Jane Grey and ignoring the claims of his two half-sisters.
