The Stuarts Issue a Challenge
James I gained power of the English throne in 1603. He agreed to abide by the laws accordingly to English laws and customs. He repeatedly clashed over the Parliament about divine right. He rejected the Puritans demands. -
King Charles the First Gets the Throne
He inherited the throne, from his father. He became a monarch, and behaved like his father. He imprisoned his people he wasn't fond of this led them to jail without a trial. Charles also signed the Petition of Right. -
Charles Signs Petiton of Right
Charles was an interesting leader, he signed the Petition of Right however he ruled without Parliament. Normally leader would rule with Parliament however he did not. -

The Long Parliament
After many years without the Parliament it began to overwhelm Charles. It became known as the Long Parliament to many others, it lasted on and off until 1653. He executed many of the Chief advisers to him including Archbishop Laud . -

The Civil War lasted from 1642 to 1651. The English Civil War challenged absolutism. King Charles the First supported the Cavaliers mainly because they were wealthy. The Round heads leader was Oliver Cromwell -
The King is Executed
Charles the First was executed, the Parliament set up a court to put him on trial. The condemned him for being a tyrant, traitor, murder and public enemy. Before being locked into the guillotine he prayed his final time, and that was the end of his rein. -
Challenging the Commonwealth
The Parliament passed a law to exile most Catholics to Ireland. Catholics who disobeyed would be killed on the spot. Poor men called the Levelers began to think why'd didn't they as much a Judges our juries. So they began to challenge the Commonwealth. -

The names of the parties that emerged were the Whigs and the Tories. Whigs talked about the policies of a Glorious Revolution. The Tories were aristocrats who wanted to preserve older traditions. -
English Bill of Rigths
The Bill of Rights ensured the superiority of the Parliament over the Monarchy. Therefore it lead to a meeting where people went to control there spending profits. -

The Prime Minister Leads the Cabinet
The "cabinet refers to a small room where people met." The Whig leader made the cabinet into something unified where all members could discuss issues happening in the Kingdom.
