    Prohibition
    Prohibition was the banning of alcoholic beverages. This angered many people, because they had the right to purchase alcohol, but it was banned. I feel like this changed so many things in the way people associated. They couldn't go out for a drink or purchase wine for a romantic dinner. Also I feel like many Americans lost respect for higher powers for taking away such a simple thing.
  • U.S. Aquires Alaska

    U.S. Aquires Alaska
    In 1876 the U.S. decided they would buy Alsaka from Russia. Many Americans thought this was a silly idea, but later Americans were proven wrong. The purchase of Alaska was important to the expansion of the U.S. We benefitted from the rich soils and land. It also gave us the huge space for extra American useage.

    The progressive movement aimed to return control of the government to the people, restore economic oppertunities, and correct injustices in American life. This changed American life making it a big dent in history. It changed how so many people looked at the way they were to live.

    Yellow Journalism was created to enrage readers into believeing conditions were much worse than they were in reality. These writings made Americans much more sympithetic for the rebels. This made Americans much more interested in war affairs and erged their support. Giving the rebels more support and help during their time of need.

    The De Lome Letter
    The De Lome Letter was a letter written by the Spanish minister to the United States, that bad mouthed president McKinley. This letter was stolen by a Cuban rebel, who leaked it to the newspaper. This letter being stolen led to the resignment of the Spanish Minister. Giving us once again a greater power.
  • Foraker Act

    Foraker Act
    The Foraker Act ended military rule and returned a civil government. This act maintained a U.S. precence in the Carribean and protected a future canal that the U.S. had planned to builed across the Isthmus of Panama. The Foraker Act also guarunteed our saftey from war with Puerto Rico making them one less worry. In times like that one less was definitely a lift off of the shoulders.

    The Platt Amendment
    The Platt Amendment stated numerous things that the U.S. had control over even though Cuba was independent. This amendment protected and kept the saftey of the U.S. from going to war with Cuba. We benefited greatly with the right to buy, sell, and lease land for refueling stations and naval stations. Since we controlled Cuba as a stronger power we made most political decisions always giving us a wider range of choice and decision.

    Conservation
    Roosevelt made conservation a main concern, because he realized that America's resources weren't endless. Conservation created many new agricultural opportunities. It also established wildlife snactuaries, protecting animals from future harm. It also provided money to be put towards dams. Conservation helped with many economic issues in the early 1900's.

    The tow major defence systems were the Allies and the Central Powers each consisting of the powers they were with excluding the nations they were against. Each alliance was against disturbing the balance of power, so the U.S. was free of the worry of having to choose at this point.
  • Women in Industry

    Women in Industry
    When the men were sent off to war women took over their duties, as factory workers, farmers, and assistants. Women felt they needed to prove they were capeable of doing all things that men did, including being in the work force. American women needed to prove that they were equal and once they were allowed to take over the soldier's duties they had proven that they weren't any lower than men, and that they could work. It gave pride to women everywhere and showed all men that they could do it.

    Seventeenth Amendment
    The Seventeenth Amendment allowed voters to nominate senatorial candidates. This Amendment gave the citizens of each state more of a voice living up to free speech. It let Americans have a say in how they wanted things to go and who they wanted to enforce them. It gave Americans a sence of pride to live in the U.S.

    The Convoy System
    The Convoy System was the system that protected merchant ships from destroyer ships across the Atlantic Ocean. This system saved so much money and so many lives. It also provided the production of the 230 mile barrier of mines across the North Sea from Scotland to Norway. This protected so many aspects of the war affair.
  • The Selective Service Act

    The Selective Service Act
    This Act required American men to register with the government to be randomly selected for military service. 3 million were called up for the war. This act helped with the war affair greatly, because of how many troops were taken to battle. Troops being randomly selected was much easier than the personal preference of being in the war. The men that were chosen had to go to battle, but without this act there would not have been nearly as many troops to help with the war affair.
  • The Fourteen Points

    The Fourteen Points
    The Fourteen Points were the points that Wilson believed would prevent another world war from occuring. These points dealt with boundaries and war prevention. The world powers followed these points and respected them. It prevented any affairs and prevented another war outbreak.
  • The Armistice

    The Armistice
    This was a truce that Germany signed ending the war. This truce was a huge achievement in U.S. history. The war ending was a huge help in every American war, helping men return home to their wives and families. This returned men to their jobs and homes increasing efficiency. And basically restoring America to its former glory.
