Introduction of the Boeing 747 'jumbo jet'
The 747 was made by 50,000 people. They were and construction workers,mechanics, engineers, secretaries and administrators. they were called "the incredibles". They made the largest civilian airplane in the world.The incentive for creating the giant 747 came from reductions in airfares, a surge in air-passenger traffic and increasingly crowded skies.The design behind the 747 was to develop a completely new plane, and other than the engines, the designers purposefully avoided using some hardware. -
Concorde
The Concorde was the first passenger carrying commercial plane. it was built by aircraft manufacturers in Great Britain and France. It made it's first crossing on September 26, 1973. It launched the world first scheduled passenger service on January 21 1976. More routes were added, it was flown across the world. However, the Aircrafts noise limited its service and had to cut routes. -

The Concorde made its first transatlantic crossing, British Airways flying the aircraft flew London to Bahrain and Air France flying it from Paris to Rio de Janeiro. This event had a major impact on travel and tourism as this was the first plane to fly people to different countries. -

Launch of Ryanair
Ryanair was set up by the Ryan family with a share of £1, they only have 25 employees. They luanched their first first route in july with flights daily with a 15 seater aircraft. Operating daily from Waterford in the southeast of Ireland to London Gatwick. Their cabin crew must be less than 5'2 so that they can work in a small space in the cabin. The launch had a big impact on travel as it help millions of people wanting to travel for a smaller price. -
Tim Bernes-Lee invented the internet
Tim has had computer science around him his whole life, his parent where computer scientists. After graduating from Oxford University, Berners-Lee became a software engineer at CERN, the large particle physics laboratory near Geneva, Switzerland. In March 1989, Tim laid out his vision for what would become the web in a document called “Information Management: A Proposal". -

Instead, researchers would place such information “online,” where their peers could immediately retrieve it anytime. Channel Tunnel opened
The channel tunnel is the biggest engineering projects ever in the UK. It took more than 5 years to complete, they had more than 13,000 workers from England and France. It is named one of the seven wonders of the world. Its the longest tunnel in the world. Its an undersea channel linking southern England and northern France. It is run by the company Getlink, who also run a railway shuttle (Le Shuttle) between Folkestone and Calais, carrying passengers in cars, vans and other vehicles. -

Easyjet Launched
EasyJet opens it first headquarters called EasyLand in Luton. then on the 23rd October, easyJet takes its first ever booking at the telephone reservation centre. -

EasyJet founded by Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou to offer low-fares flights in Europe. when they first launched EasyJet only had 2 routes which were Luton to Glasgow and Luton to Edinburgh. EasyJet first began with Boeing 737-200s, a model with room for 136 passengers. It carried approximately 40,000 passengers in its first year. EasyJet only employed just 70 people in 1995. -
UK government tourism strategy tomorrow's tourism launched
Intasun’s lively founder, Harry Goodman became very popular in the media and acquiring many other companies and setting up his own airline. Goodman’s International Leisure Group (ILG), as it had become known, did not survive to reap the benefits of deregulation. It went bust in 1991, a major factor being the Gulf War of 1990–91 and Saddam Hussein’s threat to shoot down western civilian aircraft. -

Due to the tragic event which took place on the 11th of September in New York City, would change the world of travel. There was a decline in travelling from 6.8 million in 2000 to 5.7 in 2001. U.S. has spent an estimated nearly $100 billion to secure airports and airplanes since the attack right after the attacks, a security manifesto was quickly drawn up to ensure that terrorists would never again be able to get onto an aircraft. -

Before 9/11, most checked luggage, particularly on domestic flights, Went straight onto the plane without being scrutinized for explosives. This had a major impact on travel and tourism as new technology had to be evolved to make it even easier for airport security officials to find restricted materials and advanced screening methods and background checks, so that people would feel and be safe travelling. -

The popular Mamma Mia film, was made on the Greek island of Skopelos. Due to the island being famous from the film its also very beautiful and attracted millions of people to visit. It helped the Greek islands recover from the financial crash. -
The Birth and Growth of Social Media
TripAdvisor launched its first i phone app in 2010, they became partners with Facebook. From the beginning above a pizza shop in Needham Massachusetts, in 2015 TripAdvisor had 320 million reviews on the site. They moved to a 120 million dollar 290,000 square foot headquarters. Social media has a major impact on travel and tourism as it influences people to book trips or to be inspired by some ones pictures of them on holiday.
