Canals
Canals allowed rivers to be moved and redirected. The Erie Canal was 364 miles long. The canal reduced the price of transporting goods. -
Railroads
The John Bull, used the Camden and Amboy railroad in New Jersey. There were only 73 miles of track in the United States. Ten years later, there were 8,000 miles of track in the United States. -
Railroads vs Canals
Railroads finished off what the canal began to do. Both were intended to tye together the US economy. They had the same mileage but railroads were faster.
