Monroe Doctrine reflects special US intrests in Americas
When the Latin American countries took worry about other Europeans invading and taking away thier new found freedom the US stepped into the picture. The Monroe Doctrine stated that "the American continents... are henceforth not to be subjects of future colonization by any European powers." This secured independence for the Latin American countries and a high rate benfits for the Americans. -
China and Britain clash in the Opium War
Due to the smuggling of Opium into China by the British, the Chinese leaders were furious. The battle taking place mostly at sea did not last very long due to China's lack of industrialization, Britian took the victory. But, in 1842 they signed the peace treaty of Nanjing. -
Commodore Perry enter Tokyo Harbor
One day during 1853 a arge fleet of Americna ships sailed into Tokyo Harbour. The Americnas made a deal that the Japanese could not refuse and while the Japanese "decided" Perry kept on his exploration. And a year later Perry arrived and Japan and America made the Treaty of Kanagawa, which puched open the trade doors so more than one port was open. -
Us wins Spanish American War
When the Americnas joined the Cuban War for Independence the conflict became known as the Sanish American war. The war lasted for about 4 months and the first attack was not on Cuba but the Phillippine's to throw off the opposing forces. Unprepared the Snapish quickly lost the battle and collapsed. -
Mexicn Revoultion begins
As the different forces from the north and sounth unite. They begin to rebel and fight agianst the dictatorship. Francisco Madero was the leader of the revolt in which the Mexicans won and gained democracy for only a short period of time. -
Panama Canal Opens
Becuase the Americans wanted an easier trading route to the west coast and to acsses Pacific ocean countries they had the idea of building a canal through the smallest part of land in Laatin America. They tryed nagotiating with Colombia and did not except the starting amount of money, America started a revoultion wich woul form the country of Panama. This new found country would then gove America land to build the canal.
