Trading first started in Ghana. Ghana had a lot of gold. Berbers and Almoravids were traders from north Africa. They traded salt, peacock feathers, clothes and weapons for gold.The Ghanians and the traders could not talk to each other as they speaked diffrent language so they had to use silent bata. -

After a while, one of the traders, Amloravids, put a new religion in Ghana. The Ghanian leader, which was called Wagadudu, didn't follow this religion. The Almoravids relised this and attacked Ghana. The Ghanian Empire fell. -

Mali had a rich kingdom just like Ghana. Mali's king, Mansa Musa was known to cross the Sahara desert and take 500 men carrying solid golden staff's. Mansa Musa gave away the golden staff's to oter kingdoms. -
