Events that led to the American revolution

  • 1500

    French colonization

    Started in the 16th century, the territories that France colonized were known as New French at that time. In their way to expand their territory, they got some problems with British colonies because the borders were not accurately established.
  • Enlightment in America

    This way of thinking that to America from Europe made people from the 13 colonies to make use of reasoning in many aspects. Because of this, some people started to create ideas to get consolidated as one nation apart from UK and France.
  • Seven Year war

    Originated by the UK and France, the 7 year war was a fight for different interests of the nations previously mentioned. Allies and people from the colonies took part at this war.
  • British colonization

    During 1606 and 1607, King James I of England established a company in Virginia in order to colonize North America. Slowly, while the consolidation of UK was completed they expanded more and more until they settled 13 colonies.
  • Canada

    France had some colonies in Canada but in the end of the Seven Year war, britains conquered some of them. British people also blocked some provisions for the american colonies of France.
  • Economic troubles in UK

    After obtaining territories in Canada, the United Kingdom got debts because they had to give more supplies and money beside the fact that they also had to manage the new territories. This made that the 13 colonies started to be more autonomous and to learn how to handle by their own with their problems.
  • Taxes in the UK colonies

    The british parlament established some rules for North America's colonies that included taxes for sugar and other merchandise. This were not good news for colonists.
