The Magna Carta was the first document that said that the king and his government are not above the law. (In this case it was for the king of England)
It prevented the king to abuse of his power and placed a limit to the royal authoritie by establishing law as a power itself. Fun fact, this document was issued by the king himself to deal with his own political crissis -

People taught that the black plague was some sort of god’s punishment and they thought that to stop it they had to win his forgiveness.
The black plague killed arround 50 percent of the world population back then. -

The great Schism
The great Schism was the separation of the Orthodox Church and Catholic Church.
Both churches wanted to be the true Church and so they separated. This led to confusion and uncertainty among Christians, as they didn’t know which pope to follow, weakening the church’s overall authority.
