First Africans brought to Virginia
The first Africans arriving at Jamestown led to The Civiil War because it had set an enragement in the Africans because they were'nt being treated like humans. -
New York City slave revolt
23 slaves were involved in this event where nine white colonist were killed by the slaves and they also burned donw a building on Maiden Lane. This led to the Civil War because men were killed and that would make many white southerners angry. -
South Carolina Slave Revolt
The evening of September 20 black slaves met at the Stono River because they wanted to escape to freedom. They killed two store people and stole guns and gunpowder. This made the southerners even more angry and would cause future problems on the topic of slavery. -
The Missouri Compromise
This compromise allowed for Missouri to come into the Union as a slave state and it amde Maine a free state. It also stablished that the states berond the boundaries north of Missouri would be free states or nonslavery states. This only put off the problem for fourty year, but it did not solve it. -
The Compromise of 1850
Under the Compromise of 1850 California would be admitted as a free state and slave trade wouldbe prohibited in Washington D.C. Since there would be more free states than slave states then there would be an inbalance in the Senate which would not look fair to the souther slave owners. This would make the southerners mad because they won't have much representation. -
Uncle Tom's Cabin
This book by Harriet Beecher Stowe really stired up the thoughts African-Americans rioting for their freedom. It heated up the whole anit-slavery pro-slavery problems. Some people were full of anger because of the book, especially because it was writtenby a woman. -
Kansas-Nebraska Act
This act became a law when there was a unanimous support from the South. This divided the Whig Party. Some norther Democrats created a new party that was against the law, the Anti-Nebraska Whigs. This division of Democrat would stir up conflict between the ones for and against the law. -
Pottawatomie Massecre "Bleeding Kansas"
John Brown and six of his followers set out one night to murder pfive pro-slavery settlers. This would make the Missourians that were trying to settle in Kansas scared. This would cause everyone to be paranoid and carry guns. There was going to be lots of bloodshed since both sides, the anti-slave and pro-slaves, wanted to intimidate each other. -
John Brown's Raid
At this point Brown wanted to take his move a step further. He and eighteen of his followers gained control of the U.S. arsenal in Harpers Ferry, Virginia when they attacked it. Brown was going to give slaves weapons so that they could revolt against their owners. Sadly he was captured and charged for treason and sentenced to death. Many peoplewhosupported himwouldbe furious, and would continue his fight against slavery. -
Abraham Lincoln Electionof 1860
The election of Lincoln would make much of the souhterners very unhappy. Lincoln was an abolitionist so the slave owners were worried that inbalance in power wouldn't be good for the cause towards slavery. This would lead to civil acts againts the Preisdent, and later on tothe Civil War.
