  • Missouri Compromise

    Missouri Compromise
    Henry Clay proposed a compromise that allowed Missouri as a slave state and Maine a free state. Jesse B. Thomas also proposed that the rest of the Louisiana Purchase territory above the 36°30' boundary line will be prohibited from having slavery. It made both North and South happy at that particular time but it did not settle relationship between both sides and the issue of slavery. This led to the Civil War.
  • The Wilmot Proviso

    The Wilmot Proviso
    The Wilmot Proviso was a piece of legislation proposed by David Wilmot at the close of the Mexican-American War. If passed, the Proviso would have prohibited slavery in territory acquired by the U.S as result of the war. Wilmot debated this for over 2 years but all his attempts failed. Debate over this gave the first serious talk about succession from the South. This led to the Civil War.

    In January 29, 1850 Henry Clay introduced a series of resolutions in order to seek a agreement between the North and South. In the resolutions, California would be admitted as a free state, formation of territorial governments in lands acquired from Mexico, the end of the slave trade, and a new, more stronger fugitive slave law. The compromise was passed by Congress with the help of Stephen Douglass, but it did not settle the relationship between the North and South. This led to the Civil War.

It passed from 1793 to 1850,which they added if their slaves runaway they deserved a punishment. Northern states passed special legislation in an attempt to circumvent them. This led to the Civil War.

Pro and anti-slavery moved to Kansas hoping to adjust the vote into their favor. The two groups struggle for five years with occasional outbreak of bloodshed that claimed 56 lives. The violence from the bloodshed shock and troubled the nation. This led to the Civil War.

    Dred Scott was a Virginia slave,trying to sue for his freedom in court, but he couldn't because he has no rights or recognition to a human being. The Dred Scott decision threatened the political landscape that had thus managed to prevent the Civil War. The classification of slave as mere property made the government authority to adjust the institution much more ambiguous. Southerns renewed their challenges to the agreed-upon territorial limitation on slavery. This led to the Civil War.

    John Brown and his group of followers raided a government arsenal in Harper's Fairy,Virginia 1859. He hoped to seize weapons and create a slave rebellion. Although capturing the arsenal he was forced to surrender by soldiers under the command of Colonel Robert E. Lee. He was tried for treason and, upon his execution, became a martyr for the abolitionist cause. Southerners, on the other hand, began to prepare themselves for future abolitionists raids. This led to the Civil War.

Anderson surrendered the fort in April 14,1861.Upon hearing about the attack on Fort Sumter Abraham Lincoln began mobilizing the North for war .This led to the Civil War.
