In 1911, Emily Murphy and five other female activists became champions of the rights and welfare of women and children. Their journey started in 1911, and further in the 1920s, women were finally able to vote. Later on, through Emily and the Famous Five, a major breakthrough occurred. Women were finally seen by the government as 'persons' in the law. Emily and these other powerful women changed and paved the way for the progress we are still making today. -

World War I was one of the most devastating, treacherous things to ever hit our wold. It caused controversy worldwide, and many innocent lives were lost. It brought out the best and worst of humanity. However, through the war, the world completely changed. -
Jeremiah Jones (social change) +1
In the Battle of Vimy Ridge, Jeremiah Jones made a giant change in our world, especially for the image of Black Canadians and other people of colour. He was the first black man to fight with Canada in the war. He aided Canada to win victory of the ridge, which gained much needed respect for Black Canadian Soldiers. He proved that a black man could fight in a white man's army. -

In 1917, the government of Canada passed the war measures act. It stated that the police were allowed to arrest and imprison people with out charge if they were born in enemy countries such as Ukraine and Germany. -
1920s Roar (political, social and economic changes) -1
The 1920s were a controversial time of whether they were a period of progress or decline. In this time, many new innovations were introduced, such as sliced bread, theatres, and more things revolving entertainment or easier lives. However, this was also a time of irresponsibility for many, as more people were borrowing money from the bank, as well as many people unemployed, which caused a downfall in the economy. -

In the 1920s, new appliances were made for housewives to use in their household chores, but also suggested for them to do more work. Many women at this time were expected to work at home and rely on their husbands financially, if they were in work, most women earned an incredibly low salary. -
Mary Pickford (social change) +1
In the 1920s, a successful actress named Mary Pickford changed the image of women for most people. She divorced her husband at a time where that was frowned upon, and proved that women could be successful without the constant aid of a man. She was one of the most successful, powerful, and wealthy women at the time and changed the world with her image.
