During the time of WW1, there was a lot of discrimination against First Nations. During one of the battles, Francis Pegahmagabow, a First Nations soldier, proved himself and his nation to be worthy of respect by showing their use in war and their talents in sniping. This is a sign of progress for Canada because it created more peace and respect for others.

During the war, French-Canadians were left out because of the instructions and manuals being in english rather than french. Once the 22nd Battalion was formed, many French-Canadians could be promoted to higher ranks in jobs and were more included.This was a time of progress for Canada because it made its citizens more included.

Tax was introduced in 1916 because Canada needed more money to support the battles. This made Canadians extremely mad and some could not afford it. While it was a decision that angered many, it was a period of progress for Canadas economy because the government needed more money to improve Canada as a country.

Canada made a promise to Britain that they would provide thousands of soldiers for their army. Canada did not get enough soldiers during some battles and because of that, the government started to force Canadian men into war. After the war, many artists took the chance to promote heroic war stories through art pieces. This was a period of progress for Canada because not only did these artists grow their names, they represented the sacrifices and hard work of those who contributed to the war.

After the war, many people could not find any jobs, especially Austro-Hungarian and German Canadians because of the continued discrimination. This was a time period of decline for Canada because many people were still discriminated against and were not treated fairly.
