    Archduke Fran Ferdinand was assonated. Sarajevo Gavrilo Phillip (Black hand member) thought that killing Ferdinand would send a message to Austria Hungary to let Serbia have independence. It's not the reason the war started but it brought Europe to war in 28 days eventually this war dragged in every alliance starting a domino effect causing WW1. -2 This was great decline as this was the "reason" the war had started.

    Second Battle Of Ypres
    A terrible war where Germans used chlorine gas to take out Canadian soldiers. Canadians had to use urine cloths and shove it down their throats. Many Canadian lives were lost. +1 progress was made as we held Ypres and didn't back down after a chemical warefare.

  • Battle Of The Sommes

    Battle Of The Sommes
    A ton of lives were lost during the Battle Of The Somme's as Britain played offensively. It was a very bloody and terrible war. Newfoundlanders had tried to help during this war all 800 of them were in the open and all most all of them died. -2 nothing special was done but many lives were lost. This shows decline as we lost many soldiers during this war.

    In this Battle the Canadians used a different battle tactic called the Rolling barrage. The rolling barrage is when the Canadians shot artillery close Infront of them and this caused the Germans to go into hiding when the artillery had reached them. The Canadians were already there. The Canadians opened fire and took out the Germans. The Canadians even had the artillery go back over the Germans trench to get any leftover Germans. +2 This was a big victory for Canada.
  • Hill 70

    Hill 70
    This was a battle to get to a hill 70 meters above sea level. This hill looked over Passchendaele and wasn't as muddy as sea level. During this battle the Canadians orchestrated a 250-machine gun attack and this destroyed Germans lines and was one of the best performances in war. +2 This was also a great victory in Canada as it worked flawlessly.

    The Battle At Passchendaele
    Canadians had invaded Passchendaele to take it over. In the process they ended up destroying it. Author Currie didn't want to attack in these conditions and was ordered to and he estimated that it would cost Canada 16 thousand soldiers. Eventually in 1918 the Germans ran out of gas and we had taken over Passchendaele. +1 not one of our greatest victory's but it does show some progress.

    For a long time Women have been pushing to vote during 1917 women serving overseas were given the right to vote. Along with wives, sisters, etc of soldiers. +2 This is great progress for voting rights and overall a big change in Canada.
  • Conscription

    Conscription
    In 1917 the Canadian government made it mandatory to join the military. Conscription was promised not to happen but due to the numbers of soldiers falling conscription was necessary. -2 This shows great decline as many men that didn't want to go to war were forced to risk their lives. Some people didn't want to go through the trauma or face death but many did due to Conscription. This was a terrible thing that had happened.
  • Impact On Women

    Impact On Women
    Canadian women had first entered the workforce during this time. By 1918 over 30,000 women had worked in war industries. Women were paid less than men and after war they were often pushed out or removes from their jobs as men returned. +1 Some progress was made during this time as some women got to enter the workforce for the first time. This will lead to women being allowed into the work force anytime later on.

    During 1919 the League of nations was created. This was supposed to be a peace treaty but eventually country's found out they cant interfere with fights. After each country found out many other small wars broke out showing how bad this peace treaty is. -2 This showed great decline as we couldn't even keep peace
