Nellie McClung campaigned for women's voting rights
One of the things Nellie McClung is famous for is fighting for women's rights to vote. She had a crucial role in giving women some of their rights in Canada. She helped make society more fair and equal for at least 1/3 of the population (not counting WOC since racism was still prevalent). She was an important figure, especially for women who stayed at home while their husbands,brothers, and sons were out fighting. She is a major figure to be added onto my timeline. +2 -

Racism during WW1
During enlistment for WW1, Black men were still denied when they tried to enlist.Instead they were later allowed to enlist in the No.2 Construction Battalion.This group was made just to do manual labour work.Things like digging trenches, setting up areas, and etc. This form of racism wasnt as bad as other things that have happened to Black men, but it still is a form of racial inequality. Denying Black men to be able to fight for their country is a crucial event to add onto my timeline. -1 -

Canada's battlefield technological advancements
Since this was the first ever world war,everyone was learning what to do as they were doing it.There wasnt that much time to prepare and all tactics and strategies were made up along the way.The technological decisions(or what some call Battlefield technology)in fighting the war and coming up with strategies on the spot really gave us technological advancements for the next battles we fight.Without these ideas,we would not have won many battles,which is why its a crucial event for the timeline+1 -

Canada joins the war
When the war broke out in 1914,Canada was made to join the war by their motherland, Britain. They had enlistment offices open up, and took as many men as they could(since racism still existed, black Canadians weren't allowed to enlist until later).The men were sent off and the war began. This event was significant enough to be added to my timeline because Canada joined the war,and they were immediately helping the other countries in the alliance which led to major countries respecting Canada. +1 -
The Canadian Corps
During the war, Canada realised that they needed more people to fight and they needed them to be more trained in order to fight well. Thus, the Canadian Corps was created. The Canadian Corps trained Canadians who enlisted to fight on fighting moves, tactics, and etc. This was important to my timeline because this was Canada's way of upping it's defence, making it's military stronger and making the country look stronger by being able to win more battles with stronger soldiers. +2 -
Second battle of Ypres
The second battle of Ypres is an important battle in Canadian history. It was Canada's first big battle in the War and the first major battle that they won.I ultimately chose this battle to add to my timeline because this battle was the battle where Canada started to win fights and earn respect from bigger, well known countries for winning.It shows Canada has something valuable to contribute to our world and shows Canada as a strong country that is reliable and able to fight for itself. +1 -
jobless soldiers after the war
Once the war ended and the soldiers returned home, they had to find a new way to get income for themselves. Some of the men who enlisted went back to farming, but others needed to find a job. While the war was still happening, the needs for goods and services increased more and the need for raw materials went down. This caused many factories to close, which made it even harder to find a job. I'm putting this on my timeline because a lot of people lost jobs and unemployment rates skyrocketed. -1 -
First Nations treatment after WW1
Despite being treated like equals while at war,when First Native men arrived back to Canada,they still experienced the same racism they dealt with before.they were not respected in communities, and given 0 support after the war ended.Some First Nations who served werent even allowed to go to military funerals.I am adding this to my timeline because society still wasn't fair towards these men and Canadians at the time didn't really stand up to any injustice towards the First Natives who served -1 -
Canada's economy
During WW1, Canada's economy wasn't doing so well. When the war ended, the economy stayed the same as before, and Canada was in a National debt of $1.6B. To pay off that debt, Canada would have to pay roughly $164M per year. This led to income tax being invented as a 'temporary' fix (which ended up becoming permanent). This event is important because income tax still affects Canadians today, and this event gave Canada's economy back in 1918 a big hit. -2 -
Canada signs the treaty of versailles
When the war was coming to an end, the major countries involved decided to create a treaty, to keep the peace and stop the countries from attacking one another. Thus, the treaty of Versailles was created. When the countries and alliances were signing the treaty, Canada signed by itself. This move is actually a big breakthrough into helping Canada show that it is an independent nation, and that they can make their own decisions, which is why I ultimately decided to add this to my timeline. +2
