    Lesson 4 - The Colonial Roots of America’s Founding Ideals

    The 13 colonies were once created due to many things, however, they then were divided into the New England Colonies. The main source of money for the colonies was Land. Settlers took land using mediums of wars, trades and purchases. 10,000 years ago the Europeans interacted with the Indigenous people in order to complete relationships and alliances. In 1619 slavery got to Virginia and then expanded to the other colonies.

    In 1760 the British rules were no longer helpful nor good for the Americans.The Declaration of Independence was the document that the colonies signed in which they showed their disagreement.Then, 3 groups were formed named: Loyalists, Patriots and Moderates.These had different thoughts on the British rules.The Battle of Saratoga and Yorktown lasted months and then the Amercians were able to proclaim their victory and independence.The British got defeated and had no other choice than accept it.

    Lesson 6: Creating the Constitution

    Declaration of Independence said that all the 13 colonies were independent, they started making their own constitutions.The Articles of Confederation provided more authority to the states than to the Congress.Foreign trade was declined;the economy relied more on interstate commerce.The states imposed tariffs,the US got into an economic depression.September of 1787 the constitution was sent to the states for ratification and to do the first 10 amendments(Bill of Rights)it was ratified in 1791.

    In 1789 Benjamin Franklin explained that they needed to create a new system that would balance the government.3 branches were created to distribute the power in the equally;these were the executive, legislative and judicial branches.Each branch has a different role;the executive branch enfirces both the law and the judicial branch,in the legislative branch they enact laws.They then allowed the constitution to be altered and established a federal system.Lastly they included citizens in votes.

    Lewis and Clark started their expeditions;Americans discoverd new things in 1803.Then the idea of Destiny Manifest came to be it established that the US was destined to control other countries.AndreJackson became president in 1828,democracy was growing.The federal government was being reinforced because of conflicts between the states and law,the marshall court took this decision.Good things happened in this time,woman in1848 fought for equal rights,the economy was rising due to new inventions.

    The US was divided due to slavery;The Missouri Compromise banned slavery in Louisiana.People came up with compromises,but it always turned out making 1 side mad.Examples:the novel “UncleTom’sCabin” made the north angry;HenryClay was one that tried doingit,it didn't work;the north got mad.TheDredScott in 1858 was made by the supreme court,denied citizenship to africanamericans+allowed slavery.The republican party was set to end slavery;Lincoln won the election of 1860,this then led to civil war.

    Abraham Lincoln created the anaconda plan after realizing in the battle of Fort Sumter that it was going to be long.He then freed many slaves in the Emancipation Proclamation.Many groups from the north and south were like copperheads.Both sides emerged with riots and protests over food and draft law.In the 54th Massachusetts Regiment the african americans were able to form part of the war.In 1865 the Union won when William T. Sherman and Ulysses S. Grant captured Richmond.

    The government was being reconstructed from 1865 to 1877. 3 different amendments were added in order to give more rights to the african americans. The congress was also reconstructed. They stopped construction in 1877, democrats then had more power. Then people of color and white people were segregated by Jim Crow’s law.
